I was afraid of my mum. Terrified of her in fact. Her punishments were unreal. We weren't bad kids, just normal.
She'd lock me in the coal shed at the end of the garden in wintertime and leave me there for hours.
I was also, and still am, abosolutely terrified of spiders. I think it was all that time spent in a dark shed.
I was afraid of the dark(of course).
I also had a golliwog. I think I just called it golly, and I used to have nightmares about it. I think it was the fixed maniac grin on it's face that scared me!

I was afraid of the Mushrooms that grew in our yard. I was sure that my mom was a witch and that is why they grew there. I was also afraid of the bat she kept in the cage on the patio, she said it was a fruit bat, but I was sure it was all about the secret pot of stuff on the stove that I could not eat. I mean when you think about it now, I think I may have been right about my mom being a witch all along. I guess we all have reasons to be afraid at that age. Why not be creative about it.

I was scared by shadows on the wall of my bedroom that looked like skulls or human shapes.
I use to hide under the covers and hope they would go away, but they stayed all night until the dawn.

Was really petrified of spiders (still am). The darleks on Dr Who (this was back in the 70's). The witch under my bed and that strange twig like character that used to be on 'Rupert the bear'.

The dark, fish, birds, staring in the mirror (my mum said if you stared in the mirror long enough you would see the devil) I used to stare for ages then quickly look away as i was sure I would see him if I carried on looking. Mum wasn't horrible, just daft lol. I was a poser. lol.
