Probably because God stayed pissed at sin and the fallen state of man the entire Old Testament.
Jesus came and satisfied that wrath with his life and death.
Good to see you again, Sho-nuff. Have a great weekend.
James: God is God and He has the right to do whatever He wishes with us (whom he created). Who do you think has that right? You? Me?
I don't believe God and Jesus are the same entity. Never have and never will. You might reconsider your generalizations of Christians. We're not all the same, you know?

Because they knew they needed Grace & Mercy and God was the only one to provide it. Did you notice He did provide it? Everytime Isreal turned their back on Him they ended up in a bad situation and would turn back to God and ask for His forgiveness and He would bring them Salvation. Ever read the story of Hosea? He was a prophet in the Old Testament. God told him to marry a prostitute. He did. She left him and had 3 children with other men. God told him to go get her and bring her back again as his wife and to love her inspite of everything. He did. God did that as an example to Isreal to show how much He loved them.

Sheryl: So that gives God the right to kill them? You say Jesus is God, yet you contradicted yourself.
Sheryl (again): If all Christians don't believe the same thing, God will have a tough time deciding who goes to heaven and who doesn't.

'Tis a wrathful and bloodthirsty God. Perhaps a muscle relaxer or a good shot of some fine whiskey would have loosened him up a bit.
*Chippy* - The word you are looking for is "masochist".

Good question 'Nuff. But if you read further you will find that God ends up not killing them. Now that's what I call mercy.

You are going to be doing that yourself oneday, except you will be asking for mercy for your own life, and for God not to send you to the pit.
