No, because it is not about "belief". It's about workable knowledge regarding the spiritual nature of man. It's about actually applying this knowledge to change and improve the condition of mankind.
There is no belief or worship involved. It's not that kind of religion.
Here is a description of what it is about:

Scientology is an applied religious philosophy. When I say "applied" I mean you actually use it in your life to change or improve existing conditions. It is a very practical religion.
All religions if you learn about them have a basic philosphy, but they also have certain dogma, rituals and observances, and a certain faith or belief is required. There is nothing wrong with this, but Scientology is not that kind of religion. It does not intrude on anyones faiths of beliefs particularly in the area of God , the Supreme Being, or the Infinite. This area is left totally up to the indivdual, which is why you can be a practicing Jew,for example and still use and apply the priniciples of Scientology in your life. It does not conflict. If anything it will enhance your understanding of your chosen religious practice.
You can have no specific religious beliefs and still benefit from using it.
And it is only true for you according to your own observation and experience with it.
It is a non denominational religion . The dictionary definition that applies:
Religion: The spiritual or emotional attitude of one who recognises the existence of superhuman power or powers.

The most basic principle of Scientology is that YOU are your own immortal soul, that this is not a "thing" you HAVE but what YOU actually are.
The whole purpose of Scientology is to increase an individual's understanding and awareness of himself. and lifeAnd thereby his native abilities .
When you do this the sphere and zone of his positive influence increases and moves outward into his life, his family ,his friends, his groups and mankind which he is part of.

How this result is achieved is the "technology" of Scientology, which was developed by L.Ron Hubbard after his extensive research and the discoveries he made, about the human spirit. The basic religious philosophy and knowledge of Scientology is very old, going back 10,000 years at least to the Veda or Vedic Hymns from the East. L. Ron Hubbard researched and made new discoveries about the human spirit. He developed technology from these discoveries to apply to increase spiritual awareness and ability.
He completed his research before his death in 1986 and left all of his results and copyrights
to the Church of Scientology along with most of his considerable personal estate, when he died.

He published a book in 1951 to communicate the basic principles he discovered called: " Scientology The Fundementals of Thought"
There are currently over 10 million Scientologists in more than 163 countries world wide. However we are a new religion, only 53 years old.
The true story of Scientology as a religion goes like this:
1. A philosopher developes a philosophy about life and death.
2. People find it interesting.
3. People find it works.
4. People pass it along to others.
5. It grows.

This is just an overview.
L. Ron Hubbard explained fully the theology and technologies of Scientology in more than 500,000 pages of writings, including dozens of books and over 2,000 tape-recorded public lectures.

Why am I a Scientologist (for the past 36 years) ??
Because it makes sense to me, but more important.....it works, it gets results, it delivers what it promises.

Hey "the outsiders",

You are a Scientologist therefore we know that you are banned from visiting certain sites and from entering certain keywords into your search engine. Your "religion" prohibits this, it censors your reading. Why? If Scientology is the one true religion - then what does it have to fear from a Wikipedia entry on L. Ron Hubbard?

Maybe that you would discover that he was an occultist - his mentor was Aleister Crowley's pupil. Maybe that you would discover that his son told a 1980s Playboy interview that Scientology was merely Satanic principles spread over a long period of time. Your "religious" principles say nothing that has not been said before, just read the Wikipedia entry for Satanism. You will see that the principles are exactly the same. And sure it works, L.Ron Hubbard's son said it works, he said it works because Satanism works. If you want to follow these principles - why not go straight to the source, stop wasting time and money on Scientology and go straight to its source - Satanism.

(update: "The outsiders" - I see you've just given me a thumbs-down - How "enlightened" of you....
Funnily enough, I'm not actually what you call a "suppressive person" - to be honest I don't care enough to be one. If you read my answer I am telling you to "go for it" - but that if you want that sort of power - you should go to the source of your religion.)

Unfortunately yes, some people actually do. Why? I honestly couldn't tell you. Why does anyone join a cult? Usually it's because they were brainwashed.

It's pretty tragic, though. Scientology is dangerous if not downright deadly. For example, there's Lisa McPherson. She was a Scientologist. She was involved in a car accident and resultantly became mentally unstable. Because Scientologists oppose psychiatry, she was kidnapped from the hospital (they wanted to treat her psychological disturbance cause by the accident) by agents of Scientology who held her against her will, refused her proper psychiatric treatment and allowed her to STARVE TO DEATH.

There must be some people out there gullible enough for Scientology. After all, Ron Hubbard's books on it were best sellers.

Personally, Christianity has much more appeal. The central focus of Christ's message to us is "love". Love God first. Love your neighbor as yourself. It's all about love.

Hollywood celebs are nuts about it, why? Who knows? Many say scientology is just a cult, and not a real religion.

Some do, people believe in lots of different religons, that is what has caused so much trouble over the centuries,

they all " believe " they are right............in truth...nobody knows.

.they sure cant all be right, perhaps they are all wrong, that makes more sense to me.

I used to believe in Santa, when I became older I realised is was just a fairytail, so what different about any religon?, no proof, no nothing, just trouble.

...why not just believe in yourself, your family, friends, you need nothing else

Scientology is for crack-pots. Truly these people need help and lots of medication. Hopefully soon their alien master will come and take them back.

Scientologists do, I would imagine.

But why is one seemingly absurd set of beliefs any different from another?

You do realize that many see Christianity as absurd, don't you?
