No...do not take them...they are designed to keep you hooked on them your entire life (money-grubbing companies)...it took me 2 years and a lot of pain to get off them....if you cant afford a therapist....take 900mg of St. John's Wort everyday (slightly curbs depressive states....and Pray... :) good luck

Yes, they do work but sometimes it takes a while to find the right one for you.
If you go to the doc, they will give you a questionnaire to fill out and they will try to put you on the right meds, but it's important to keep in touch because it sometimes may take awhile to get the right prescription, there are SO many different drugs.
You can get some herbal stuff (St. Johns Wort) over the counter, but it sounds to me like you need a real (prescription) drug.
Best of luck to you.

They can work. In my experience, you may have to try several different ones before you find one that will work for you & therapy can help too. You do need a prescription. You could try St John's Wart...it is an herbal supplement that helps some with mild depressive symptoms. But, everyone is differnet, and drugs affect people in different ways...Talk to your Dr. If your depression is mild, the side effects of an anti-depressant can be worse than the depression.

dear wookie,
most anti-depressants are by prescription from a doctor.
you need to make an appointment before the depression gets
out of hand.
there is an otc item that you can ask your pharmacist for called
st. johns wort.it can be helpful but most docs are not for taking it because it is just a food supplement...
if i were you i would call your doc and make an appt to be seen
by him/her and just explain that you feel depressed most of the time.

yes they do! You NEED to go talk to your doctor - you do not have to feel depressed all the time. Please do make the appointment asap, you will feel so much better. I was like you and I went to see my doctor. It felt like a large heavy dark cloud lifted when my medication took affect. Good luck to you.

they can work, yes.. your best option would be to take a trip to the doctor/psychologist.. they will know what to prescribe for you, i would not buy them over the counter and i don't think you can.
