Yes, that is one of the things insurance companies routinely check to set your rates.

Credit Rating: A great tip to get cheap car insurance-keep your credit clean! Yes, a lot of insurance companies are checking your credit and basing your policy on what is found. Make sure you check to see if your credit is in good shape, and if it is not, you may want to seek out companies who do not do credit checks.

Insurance companies have no right to charge high rates because of your credit score, and they should receive large fines for doing so. They won't give you coverage unless you pay and they cancel you if you don't pay. This has nothing to do with your credit score.

It depends on the state you live in. If you live in CA, it's against the law.
Some carriers have a "flat rate" for those who do not want their credit run. It's much higher than their rate for those with a low insurance score.

YES they will, AAA does that. They want to be sure you can pay your bills while they cover you & if you owe them any money from the past, also they will check if you make excessive claims that could be illegal. They check for everything. It's best you ask your parents to come down with you or add your vehicle to their policy, you will get family discounts that way. It's better & will help you lower the bill =)

yes they will check it but if u want to shop around u can ask them for a "general quote". make sure u let them know u want a general quote. if they ask for your ssn when are getting the general quote its not a general quote.. the creidt check doesnt go against ur credit report except for as an inquiry though. if u plan on getting multiple places to check your credit try to do them all on the same day that way it doesnt affect u as much
