why are you here ??? to make civilisation a better place or to give the world somekind of wake up call ? to define others or to judge others ? to bring about good , or question it ? to do what you want to do , or do what is good to do ? to know what is what , or guess what ? to think you know when you know you know and give the wrong answer............???? or how it was when it was at that particular moment when you were you , and everything was so clear , and suddenly lost !!!! .....so ...... why is it that you are here , on this existence of immaculate conception which we call life ?

WOW - your question is deep .................like a saucer of milk.
I believe i was put here to answer your question.
dont be so fu*king vain - humanity is a species that will have its little time here and eventually fade away like species before it - what you do means **** all to anyone or anything in the greater scheme of things - even if you lead the world for a period eventually others will re-write your history and one day no one will remember or give a sh1t
just be happy to be alive - be good - be nice and enjoy yourself while you can - the worlds a wonderful place and life is truely wonderfull - but is also cruely short so dont waste it
ps. Nora - people like you depress me - live for yourself and for the ones that are dear to you, not for a fairytale

You are actually asking two different questions:
1. What is the purpose of life?
2. What is the meaning of life?
By way of example -- if I hold up an empty water balloon and ask you what it's purpose is, the most basic answer is 'water transportation via aerial mode.' That's all the purpose is -- it is a reason for existing. If it is sitting on a shelf in a store, it has that purpose, if it's in my hand filled and ready to go, it has that purpose.
Meaning, however, is something that is ascribed to an object. I fill such a balloon with water so that I can tag my mother during the next family reunion summer-fun party. That is now its meaning -- joy and playfulness. It did not have that meaning on the store shelf. There, at the store, its meaning was profit -- the owner of the store hoped someone would buy it and thus the owner would make profit off it.
So to go back to your questions -- what is the purpose of life? It has none. To have a purpose means that an intelligent being must have created it. Purpose is an intended direction, a best-suited direction, and life has no creator nor an intended direction. Life is inherantly purposeless.
What is the meaning of life? Because we are self-aware, even in acknowledging the purposelessness of life, we can ascribe a meaning to it. For many people, this meaning is little more than that they hope to live day by day. Some people make religion their meaning, others knowledge, others intentionally make hate or cruelty their meaning -- no one said all meaning has to be good. It just gives us a reason to wake up in the morning and defy our purposelessness.

I am here to make this world a better place. Just like everyone else.
We are all here to multiply the amoutn of love that's in there in the physical world. Its a bit like lighting candles. You have one, and you give a little flame to an other candle, then now its more light and you did not lose anything, and then the next one and the next one... and ideally it would just grow exponentially. but then some people dont share the flame... the more people do, the lighter it will be.
I know this sounds like a weird new age blahblah, but if you are not here to give love, then why are you here?

The reason that I am here is probably very simple. I don't think it is a complex reason. As long as I live here, in a society, I will enjoy the experience, learn while I can, but I will not hang on to any pride that I made a difference on earth.

I suppose that, deep down, we all think that we are special. Some of us try and do good (without being do gooders I might add) and some of us might be serial killers. It's all down to sense of self which we all have but, in the long run doesn't make much impression. However, you can live your life according to your own ideas of self respect. If we all thought about our self respect it might be a better world. By self respect I don't mean holier than thou either. To believe othrwise might make you a fanatic.

I'm here because my parents did the nasty one night about, oh, 48 years ago. My dad's sperm found one of my mom's eggs, fertilized it, and some 9 months later I was born.
That's it. No other "reason" of any kind.
Whatever meaning my life has is what I make of it, what I decide to do with it. There's no fate, destiny, plan, god's will, or any other such nonsense for which there is no evidence of any kind.
:)
Peace.

I believe I am here for a reason, but that reason is mathematics, not some made up superstitious fairy tale.

Yes. I believe that I am here for one sole purpose: To live my life for Jesus. I believe that the reason for life is to worship the Lord and to let him live in your heart as your personal Lord and Savior because he gave his life for us on the cross and died for our sins so that we could know him and believe in him and have eternal life. And because he gave his life for us, we can give no less than our all for him.

You are "here" because you have awareness of that fact, you think, therefore you are. Nothing exists without cognisance, and a winning sperm. No fate, only Hedonism.
