Now that my friend paid $2300 to a two year extended bumper-to-bumper warranty...they tell him parts are scarce for cars more than 5 years old! What can he do about this? They have his car for over a month now with no fix in sight!

Obviously, it wasn't worth $2,300. All your friend bought was a repair insurance policy and it appears they want to pay on the cheap.
But think about this, what was really the worst that could have happened in two years? Maybe a blown engine or transmission? At best, he was probably going to just break even on this deal.

Obviously it wasn't GM who sold you the warrenty. Parts are very plentiful for GM cars as old as 10 years. Plus the similarity amongst the GM models makes it possible to locate and use parts manufactured for cars of the other divisions.
It sounds as if whoever took your $2300 spent it on their vacation.

Hate to break it to you...but there are plenty of parts out there for GM cars over 5 years old.

sometimes extended warranty is good . your friend should consult a garage or mechanic concerning warranty becausethere are many things that is not covered depending on type of plan .parts are redily available at any part store or even on the web

That's not true, the manufactures are required to have enough spare parts on hand for the next seven years after they drop a model, it could be a stall tactic buy your mechanic because he doesn't know how to repair your vehicle.

parts are everywhere for old GM cars, mine is 14 yrs. old and I just go to the parts store and get the parts I need, sounds like your friend is getting ripped off.
