Today we Catholics observe the Purification of the Blessed Virgin and the Presentation of Christ in the Temple:

"And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons." -- Luke 2:22-24

rcpeabody1: Today is the 40th day (inclusive, as is counted in Judaism) since the day we observe the birth of Christ. See Leviticus 12:1-4.

BamaJJP: Catholicism teaches God saved Mary from sin. In Luke 1:47, she calls God "my savior".

I've never heard of it and I come from a church that observes the Church calendar. I wonder if it had to do with an anti-Mary backlash.

So I'm confused. Did you post this today, Groundhog Day? Shouldn't this be celebrated January 1 or 2?

EDIT: Thanks for the clarification, Meg.

This Protestant doesn't. The scripture you quoted refers to Old Testament Leviticus 12 1-6, Numbers 3.44 18:15 and Leviticus 12. 8. When Christ died for our sins he did away with the Traditions and Feasts found in the Old Testament. We have to remember Jesus observed the tradition during his 33 years on earth. I do have a question for you. Do Catholics believe Mary was sinless?
