The answerer who cited lines 35:... - why are some phrases in brackets? Are they there in the original text or are they an interpretation?

Sorry - 33:59.

Shosho - of course if God said so I respect this, but where does He say it? Please, I want to know the true source - not the interpretations, as there seems to be many. Does God say women should cover their heads and where?

Ups, shosho has changed to cool_girl, so the comment above refers to that answer.

No ... this all comes about because most muslims think "the Da Vinci Code" is a work of non-fiction

The answer to the question is very simple - Muslim women observe HIJAB (covering the head and the body) because Allah has told them to do so.

"O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not annoyed..." (Qur'an 33:59)

God Bless You

I'm not sure about this, but I think it's in Surah An-Nisa. As for why, well, God has asked us to. That's all the reason anyone needs.

yes they should do it but its not against their religion
If they do it, they are allowed to have it uncovered when family is around but when they see men or children over 8 years old they should cover it
