I ask that question because my friend has a cat and every time I go over to her house her cat rubs on my shoe.

That is a cats way of leaving their scent. It's like marking their territory. My cat remarks my shoes and my purse everytime I come home. When I go to friends houses with cats they immediatly gravitate to my shoes to smell my cat. Because she has marked it though, the other cats do not. They just check her out by checking out my shoes. It's her way of letting them know I belong to her.

When cats rub against something, they're marking their territory by leaving their scent. It wants to let other cats know that your shoe is it's territory.

My cat smells the bottom of people's shoes and rubs against them. I think he loves scents from the outside world and marks the new scents with his own scent. I wrote scent a lot. :)

Cats are Territorial. They have these little sent glans on each side of there noses. They mark everything. Any cat or dog you come into contact with will know you are owned.

My cats do the same thing! Consider yourself complimented! Think how embarassing it would be if not even the cat could stand the smell of your feet! :0)

The cat is trying to get his or her smell on your shoes. It is an instinctual territorial thing that most of them do. Mine included.

This can be several reasons. One, it is leaving it's scent. Two, it is being affectionate, and three, it feels good to rub the area.
