This question is not directed specifically at every non-Christian; it is directly in response to a continuous debate I have see over the past two weeks, regarding us Christians "forcing" our beliefs onto American society. The fact is, we already WERE a Christian society, and thanks to the efforts of people lke Madalyn O'Hara and such, it is being removed from our society, along with morality. It doesn't take a Christian to know right from wrong, and just because many people who protest things like murdering unborn children and homosexual marriage happen to be Christian, does not mean we are forcing our beliefs. It simply means that while everyone has the right to their beliefs, (even evolutionists, who truly force their beliefs through our public education systems,) our nation should not compromise what is right simply to please those who have no concept of morality."Morality as defined by who?" As I said, it doesn't take a Christian to know right from wrong.Who are the real hypocrites?

Sun: Do some studying on American History.

Everyone else: I find it rather pointless to argue; we would just go in circles all day. I am just making a point, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.

The real hypocrites are those without the courage to admit to their sins and sinfulness, and yet will come down heavy on those who do, sin is the cause of every misery in this world and opting out of the reality of this is not just simple denial,it is the lowest form of inhumanity.

Wow.

First, we were never a Christian society. The country was indeed founded on religious freedom, not Christianity.

Still, Christians in power began writing their beliefs into the laws of the country. They began teaching their prayers to school children. Someone had the courage to step up and stop that nonsense. And it is nonsense. Imagine how you would feel if you sent your young Christian children off to public school and they told you that every single morning they had to recite a Muslim prayer. It is wrong no matter which religion is doing it.

Christianity may be being removed from the laws but people are certainly free to practice that religion if they so choose.

Morality has nothing at all to do with Christianity. Nothing.

Evolutionists aren't a religious group, you do understand that right? Evolution is science. If you wish to shield your child from science, that is your privilege. But please don't try to shield everyone's children. No one is forcing a religious belief by teaching science in school.

What is right is that all people have the right to choose their own religion and not be forced into practicing the what others believe. People from all faiths and from no faith at all have morals.

I don't really understand what your paragraph is trying to say. Forcing a belief on people is different than "forcing" evolution on people - religious beliefs vary widely, evolution applies to everyone. Secondly, evolution has been shown through science; proven, if you will. And removing religion from society doesn't remove moralilty. Do you have anything to back up that claim? The hypocrites are the Christians who condemn homosexuals, abortionists, etc. even though you are not supposed to judge. The hypocrites are the atheists who repeatedly state that there is no God (as a fact, not a "belief"). The hypocrites are the Muslims who "behead people for saying that Islam is a violent religion" (Richard Dawkins book).

In essence, the hypocrites are individuals, not groups of individuals.

"Everyone has a right to their beliefs...(but) our nation should not compromise what is right simply to please those who have no concept of morality."

WHAAAAAT?!??

Who died and left you the Morality Decider? I believe in the rights of a woman and homosexual marriage. This makes me "immoral" according to you and your perception of religion. I find it immoral that you don't believe in equal rights - why shouldn't two adults who love one another get married? You also say "The fact is, we already WERE a Christian society." We were?

We were a Christian society?

Silly me. I thought there were Jews, Atheists, Muslims, Agnostics, Buddhists, Humanists, Taoists, etc. here before I was born. Weren't some of our (finest) forefathers Free-Thinkers? How did they get to live here if it was a Christian society? The First Amendment of the Constitution of America calls for a separation between church & state. Perhaps you weren't in school the day this particular article was discussed.

You aim to find an answer to your question by insisting you are not forcing your beliefs on anyone, and then you immediately nullify your own words by acting as if you and your religion have the patent on morality. "Morality as defined by who?" Perhaps you should ask yourself that. If you would like to utilize your interpretation of a 2,000 year old text to fit present day, so be it. You pick and choose the passages that make you feel good about yourself, yet you conveniently seem to skip ones that might implicate or disprove you and your theories. I personally prefer a humanist approach to morality not based on ancient text.

From Luke 12:45-48: "The lord [owner] of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more."

Does this verse make you believe in slavery? No? God did, at least according to the apostles. If you are going to pull passages out of the Bible willy-nilly to 'prove' a point prepare to be questioned as to just exactly how it does. Honestly, if this was a sincere question I would have answered it much differently. The moment I saw the "We are a Christian nation" stuff and realized you weren't accounting for half of the population, the entire question seemed nothing more than a prejudicial "Why me/us?". You negated your own idea when you refused to allow for those who don't believe in your God. If you want a pat on the shoulder, I cannot be the one to give it, sorry.

Christian are the real hypocrites. For thinking there way is the way for all. "We are a secular country" Bill O'reilly said that maybe you should listen to him. If you are Christian then you are not gonna marry a homosexual. So why does it bother you>? It is not a Church weeding it is a contract recognized by the gov. Your church will not half to marry people.

Who gave you guys carte blanche to decide right and wrong for everyone? Just because you like your way of doing things, it doesn't make it right, or everyone else wrong. It's not about taking from one to give to another, it's about an even playing field. You don't like abortions? Don't have them. Don't like gay marriage? Don't have one. No one is forcing you to do either of these things, or even to teach your children anything other than superstition.

madalyn Ohara? Who even knows who she is outside of academic silliness that brings her out as an example of an athiest.

but I agree that relativism is a sham. We all have our views and if we come to a forum like this, it is very likely that we want to share them

Christians say rapists and murderers flow to heaven in the event that they exchange into christian before they die, however the Buddhists they raped and murdered flow to eternal hell for being unbelievers. it is hypocracy and makes me happy to not be a christian. in case you opt to kill human beings simply by fact your imaginative and prescient of justice demands killing then superb. do only not interere with others who additionally opt to kill for their very own motives.

I wouldn't be so hard on hypocrites. We all have certain standards that we embrace, and yet fail to live up to. That would tend to make all of us hypocrites, wouldn't it?
