Congratulations! The Holy Spirit hasn't left. He is still there. In your time of daily prayer, make love to the Lord in worship - you will find the Holy Spirit right there to speak through you again. This should be done everyday. Do not let a day go by without exercising this beautiful gift. The Holy Spirit always comes when you are concentrating on worshiping Christ.

When u spoke in tongues did u understand what u were saying and if u did and it was very important then why forget so soon. My dear it would be better to speak a pure language of love that every one understand, love is the only thing that bind the earth, sun, moon, stars, and the millions of galaxies together. concentrate on having a gift of love and pure heart and nothing will be taking away from u, it will be yours forever and ever Amen.

The gift of Tongues in the biblical reference was the gift given by God through the Holy Spirit to those who where spreading the gospel to peoples who spoke languages that where not known by the disciples or the missionaries. The Lord blessed them with the gift to allow them to speak to them in the language of the group so that the message could get through.
The gift of tongues, as it is known as in the modern church, is also referred to as "your prayer language". Your prayer language stays with you. It is given to you through what the pentacostals call "baptism by fire" or baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Gifts such as prophecy, healing and the true gift of tongues, come and go as God chooses. To tap into your prayer language you need to press into worship and prayer. Seek God's face. Stay in His presence. As you spend more time using your prayer language you'll find that you are able to tap into it more and more often until you get to where you don't even have to think about it anymore. But it's all about spending time with the Lord.
Your prayer language is just for you. With the congregational gift of Tongues, a person speaks out using their prayer language in a congregational setting. Within a few seconds another member of the congregation will give the interpretation. If no interpretation comes, the person who spoke in their prayer language is rebuked by the pastor and the congregation dissmisses it.
As you use your private prayer language, you can pray and ask God for understanding. You'll begin to recognize "worship" language or "Warrior" language or "healing" language. As you grow in your walk with God, you'll understand more and more. Just keep pressing in.

The gift of tongues is for the specific purpose of sharing the Gospel with someone who speaks another language.
So after someone has the gift of tongues, the natural thing to expect would be that the other language speaker who had the chance to hear the testimony in their native language would be pondering over that.

Many spiritual gifts come and go as we have need. Speaking in tongues is a private language of praise for God, and a public language as well. When you speak in tongues in public, there needs to be an interpretter present to translate for the edification of the community.

You dont 'do' it again, God gifts us at different tmes when we are ready and in his time. You may never experience tounges again but you may get something else in time. Remember to listen when you pray and not just demand. I have heard far too many Christians demanding a specific gift and being dissapointed when it didnt happen.
I never asked for a gift i was just handed prophesy and it was ace, it happens when i least expect it and I always enjoy it though it makes my adrenaline go sky high.

it isnt something you can just do.... The spirit has to come upon you.... if God has given you this Gift, he will allow you to use it for his benefit only... There are two different tongues regular and unknown.... unknown tongues, is spoken when you are alone... it is for you and god ONLY... and regul;ar tongues is when you are in the midst of others but there is always an interpreter there to testify of what you are speaking

It was a gift of the Holy Spirit needed at that time, you were chosen to be the one. If he doesn't need you to do it, the Spirit will not allow it. Stay strong in your Faith and maybe the Holy Spirit will find you worthy again.
