Keep seeking Truth and then you will know the answer. Until then even truth is a theory based only on what you have learned, and from what source. Try not to calculate your knowledge until you have found complete rest in what you believe. Sometime argument can produce knowledge, but it can also create closed minds. You must know that there is an ultimate truth even though you are not there yet. Peace is one step.

God is just a theory? to those who accept anything without investigation, Just as they accept evolution as fact without Investigation. The theory of evolution have been expounded upon for a hundred years by men, and even taught in school as fact.
The problem about The God theory is that he provided a book of history and law and the more man looks into it the more it is found to be factual and truthful. The archaeological part is right on. and the things that might be hard to believe seem to be getting better as mankind learns and uses the attributes that God gave him.(Love,Justice,Wisdom,Power) which includes common sense.
The problem is that some men have used religion to discredit the God of the Bible by teaching commands of men as doctrine and causing people to think its(The Bible) also part of their teachings.

In Scientific terms, a theory is based on facts. Testable, verifiable facts that everyone can see. You can't do that with God. God can only be believed by faith (I guess you first have to decide which God, Allah, Zeus or what have you). Some people like to think that faith is the same as knowing, but it isn't. You don't need faith to live, you just need experience.

I am not entirely sure! I think people are just afraid to think that there is not a God because then that means when we die it really is the end. I love the thought because I would agree that people are so willing to believe in God, but not evolutin which actually has more evidence to support it. People are so against believing in mythical or cryptozoological creatures such as sea serpents, extra-terrestials, and even big foot, but they will believe in God. I do not understand it either. By the way I love your avatar, alien cool!

Good point. The God Hypothesis (as put forth by Richard Dawkins) has no more validity than the theory of evolution (even less in fact). God doesn't even qualify as a theory, as stated, it's more of a hypothesis. However, religious people can't accept this. But you raise an excellent point; let's see how they counter this one.

You're completely off base. God is NOT a theory -- god is a story, a myth. A theory has a chance of actually being true.

But will you, then, agree that certain forms of the "God hypothesis" are actually worth pursuing? Or that some forms of God-theory converge with advanced theoretical physics?

I think God is the mind of the quantum vacuum.

Whoa whoa whoa, god is NOT a theory just like evolution.

They are two different kinds of theories.

God is speculation, conjecture, a guess. People may feel very intensely and assume that their faith and conviction indicates "truth", but that's not how it works. God is still completely unproven (and no, the Bible doesn't count... neither does "look at that flower; God must've created it").

Evolution, on the other hand, has been tested and proven. It's predictive and observable. It's a THEORY in the scientific sense of the word. This is what "theory" means in this contex (definitions that do not by any stretch of the imagination apply to "gods"):

"A scientifically accepted general principle supported by a substantial body of evidence offered to provide an explanation of observed facts & as a basis for future discussion or investigation."

"A logically self-consistent model or framework for describing the behavior of a related set of natural or social phenomena, originating from &/or supported by experimental evidence. A systematic & formalized expression of all previous observations that is predictive, logical & testable."

"A theory is an explanation of a set of related observations or events based upon proven hypotheses & verified multiple times by detached groups of researchers."

Dear Zhukov,

You will never meet evolution in the flesh. You will, however, meet God and witness His majesty and power. From everything the Bible tells us, it may be that His return will occur in 2011. God has many titles but the name that is above every name is Jesus Christ.

Go stand in front of a mirror and tell the very person u see on that mirror that he his just a theory. Go after and do thesame to your mother and father, brothers and sisters, your wife and your children incase u have any of the above.
