Get your records together, a good excuse, and call the IRS. You'll get hit with interest and penalty on any unpaid taxes owed; who knows you might even get a few bucks back.

If you would have a refund coming for those years there is usually not a penalty. Look at your income first to see if you are required to file for those years. If you are, file them all. If you have a refund for any of the last 3 years, the IRS will send you a check. If you owe money, send a check with the return.

You can expect notices from the IRS & State about non-filing of taxes. You will be assessed penalties and interest on any outstanding taxes. If you are getting a refund, the oldest refund will not be allowed becasue it is beyond the statute of limitations. YOU MUST GET THESE FILED ASAP.

I can not begin to imagine what the process will be but I can assure you that you need to call and make an appointment immediately. Do not wait until they discover you .
Be honest with them because you will be in bigger trouble if you do disclose all information, and they do have ways to find out anyway .( they can and do walk into a bank and ask for your records and will wait while it is done)They will tell you what you need to furnish them

That all depends on whether you owe money from any of the past years or not. Make sure you see someone reliable and have as much correct information from the past 4 years with you.
