I am desperate! I have read the books, I have tried just about every thing to get my six month old Japenese Chin potty trained! She will not go outside and potty, and I am frustrated!

Give her treats ONLY when she is outside going potty. Only reward her (toys, treats) when she is finished. Let her know after she goes what a good girl she is......soon she will realize going outside to go to the bathroom is approval from you. Do not reward her for free.

By the way, I am a certified dog trainer =)

Only thing I can tell you is to createe train first. I have a 10 week old pit and he is getting creat trained. He didn't care to much for it in the beginning, so I suggest starting it when you don't have to go to work the next day, you probably won't get much sleep. If you can put the create in a room farthest from your room it won't be to bad. Cover it so he knows it's quite time. The creat should only be big enough for him to stand up and turn around in. If you give him to much space he will make one end his sleeping quarters and the other his potty. The average dog/pup would enjoy sleeping his own mess. also he should be able to only hold it one hour for every month old he is plus one, i.e. if he's 6 months old he should be able to hold it for about 7 hours. I'm not saying he doesn't need to go out before then if possible, but this is the limit. I hope this helps. Main thing is to not buy a creat that is to big. Dogs are den creatures. They like to have a safe place to go that is away from everything else. I have an older pit and she goes in and out of her creat as she pleases now that she is potty trained. Its her house, I don't make her any more she just does. Good luck!

Use a crate and whenever you are not paying full attention to the dog put it in the crate. The best way to keep a dog from peeing in the wrong spot is to take away the opportunity. When you first take the dog out of the crate take it to where you want it to pee. Give it a couple of minutes, if it goes give it a huge amount of praise. If they don't put the dog back in the crate and try again in 20 to 30 minutes. Create a situation where success is going to happen, even if it takes a few trips outside.

Never scold a dog for going inside, it won't understand, you must prevent them from being able too.

Have you tried the puppy pads?I used them and they worked. They do make a spray that encourages them to go whenever you spray it.Do you have a crate to give her the idea?Condense her area and put a pad down for her.Even outside area can be small.Take as many of her packages outside to where you want her to potty and leave them there, she'll smell around and go on top of them.Don't let her inside til she goes, the give her a treat and act happy........good luck they are cute dogs.....

Fifteen minutes after your puppy has eaten, take her outside and wait for her to go. Praise her grandly when she does. She'll get the idea after about a week and you'll have yourself a potty-trained pup before long.

You take her outside every 2 hours no matter what. If she doesn't go outside, then take her back in. Keep up this habit with her, she will get the hang of it. The older she gets the longer she can hold it. When she does pee outside reward her, give her a treat, and say 'good girl'. If she happens to pee inside, take her outside right away, don't rub her nose in it.
