Althogh this may seem like the solution rats are big. I think a better solution is a rat poison or a dog. I have a 2 cats ans a dog and the cats never killed any of the rats but i left my dog in the kitchen 1 night and in the morning there where too dead rats on the floor. My cousin also had rats and 1 day he borrowed he's next door neighbours dog and the killed two rats. If you have mice though cats will definetly work unless there weired.

Absolutely! When there was a mass slaughter of cats by Queen Elizabeth I, the rat population exploded and, as they carry the Plague virus, the Black Death killed thousands of people.
However.... Many cats are not big enough to kill rats, and frequently the rats bite the cat. Horrid things.
Also, it depends on how many cats you've got, and how big your rat problem is. If I were you, I'd call in the experts. My local council exterminated ours for us, have you tried them? Otherwise I've attached a link below for experts, and also one for DIY.
Good luck!!

They are the best thing for exterminating rats. If the rats are big get yourself an Angora Cat. They are huge and mean.

They can be, but you do have to consider the care of the cat. They also need regular feeding, attention and veterinary care that any animal requires. This is expensive, as you have to consider 16 or more years care as well as unexpected veterinary treatment. Think about it carefully, before you get any animal as a convenience. And another point to consider is that not all cats make good ratters.

i'm an avid animal supporter, with 3 cats of my very own, one a kitten from a mom that I rescued, cared for her kittens, found them stable residences, and then spayed and located a physically powerful homestead for. I never theory that i could answer a query like this for the extermination of feral cats yet my present day circulate to the south has replaced my opinion. we can not plant a backyard in our backyard or bypass away our tot's toys outdoors, as male cats who have not been neutered continuously spray their fragrance on each and every thing. that's unsanitary and a nuisance. i've got faith for the animals, in spite of the undeniable fact that, as that's no longer their fault that their proprietors have ignored them and allowed them to over-populate. i understand of a minimum of one humane society in our area that captures feral cats, fixes them, and then releases them into the wild. in spite of the undeniable fact that, that's no longer in many cases the case in all too many areas of the country and that i think of that we would be getting to the factor the place drastic measures might desire to be taken. that's a very debatable and unhappy concern.

Yes, cats naturally terminate rats, and mice. It's part of their basic instinct.
