Buy on e? Do you mean over the internet?

I'm wondering what the background of this pup is. Was he returned to the breeder because he was unsuitable for his previous home? If so, you might want to find out what made him unsuitable.

If he's never been homed, again - I'd question why. A responsible breeder would have a waiting list of homes for the pups before they were born. Then again - a responsible breeder would also be providing papers!!

It may all be perfectly innocent, but from what you are saying - ***alarm bells are ringing loudly*** - you may well be buying from a backyard breeder or puppy farm. Apart from BYBs causing untold misery, the dogs that come from these sources are often unhealthy &/or have behavioural issues that are not screened for and bred out. They just want to get as many pups out as they can to make money as fast as possible. Vets bills are already high and are increasing rapidly, now is an especially bad time to get a dog from an untrusted source.

If I were you I'd think again, or at least find out a lot more. Don't hand over the cash until you have. I have a feeling you're about to be ripped off.

Breeders usually charge £300-£400 for an 8 week old cocker spaniel puppy so for a 5 month old, I'm guessing about £200. You'd be much better off going to the local shelter as they have many animals looking for homes. They also charge only £80-£100 adoption fees and the dog will be fully vet checked as well as having all its jabs and be neutered/spayed. They also offer you a support system after adoption. Much better idea.

It depends if it's AKC or CKC registered (CKC stands for Canadian Kennel Club, DO NOT buy a Continental Kennel Club dog). If the dog is healthy, has a good temperament, and is show quality, then the dog might be worth $600 or more. But if it's just a dog bred from backyard breeders and such, these are extremely common, then I'd rather get the dog free.

If it's not a show quality or even a registered dog, make sure it's healthy and up-to-date on shots. Test its temperament to make sure you're not getting a neurotic, aggressive dog that is common of poorly bred cocker spaniels. If it's healthy, vaccinated, and has a good disposition, then expect to pay maybe $200.

But I really recommend going to a breed rescue. You'll be able to find lots of purebred cocker spaniels that are not show quality or registered. But, they will be healthy and temperament tested and you'll know what you're getting.

i bought mine for £380 with pedigree papers ,with out papers i wouldnt have paid that much .
any cheap ones be weary off could be puppy farm .

oh cheap ones would be working strain which can be a tough to train dog its alot bigger than the show ones and golden ones can have a bad temperment (working strain)
I was told roan is the calmest and freindliest.

sorry re read you want 5 month i'd probably pay £200 or less but again check its not working type unless you do own a farm and want a working one.

Do not do that!!! Adopt on from a shelter, or a rescue group. Google "cocker spaniel rescue" there should be a lot to choose from. Do the right thing!!!

try the shelters and breed rescues. They do charge but is to cover vet care costs etc. Expect to pay anywhere from $150 to $300 for a vet checked dog from a shelter/rescue.

if it has no papers and no background info, then I would only pay about $100 for it and only if it was vet checked, has all it's shots and is fixed so it can't breed.
