I am not Haitian but I do practice Haitian Vodou. I have been a servitour for only a couple years but I hav eexperienced some amazing things in that time.
I suffered from high blood pressure. This is when I was new and still skeptical. I was asked to put my forehead to the forehead of someone that was being ridden by Ayizan. I put my head to hers and next thing I know I am on the ground, tears streaming down my face, and having a wonderful, peaceful feeling about me. I felt great!!! We continued with the service as usual and I continued to feel great even the next day. I already had an appointment with my doctor that following monday. I go to my doctor and she tells me that I do not have high blood pressure it is a normal 120/80. I stopped and thougt back. I did not have the usuall symptoms the last couple days. The dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, and sickly feelings were 100% gone. My blood pressure has been normal ever since.
One time I asked Gede to heal a chronic pain I was having in my neck and shoulders. Gede took his drink (piman) put some on me. He took his cigar and blew smoke on me. He then tapped my neck and said your fine who's next! I have not had pain since then. That has been around 6 months ago.
Those are just a couple of examples. I been helped with jobs, unexpected money to pay my bills, my life is fuller and happier since I have became a servitour. I plan to dedicate to the house this year. I feel after all this it is time for me to take the next step in my commitment to serve the lwa and honor my ancestors.
If you would like to learn more about the religion I will gladely answer your questions or if you like you can speak with my Mambo. Here is the website for the house I belong to. I gave the start of the articles written by Mambo. http://www.sosyetedumarche.com/Vodou_Info/vodou_info.html There is lots of information for you read there and she does allow people to contact her for questions or for work.

it is just a religion that have different believes. It can be dangerous if you try to abuse it. Most people have been brainwashed in the US, they see voodoo as something bad, it is not bad. It can be use to do bad things, but do not blame the voodoo, blame the person who used it to do bad things. YOU CAN USE VOODOO TO DO BOTH BAD AND GOOD. It s like someone has been a problem from your life you pray God to make that person stop. In voodoo it is similar, you call a spirit to help you to hurt that person or help that person stop be a problem in your life.

I've worked with a couple Loas, mostly the "darker" side of the Pantheon. I got decent results, even though I am not an initiate of Vodoun.

It is a mixture of old African practices, and Roman Catholicism. The people were brought over on slave ships and had their beliefs challenged by the Catholics in Haiti, and had to practice the Catholic faith. T hey responded by mixing the two, so they looked like good Catholics, even as they continued in their primitive beliefs.

not much. I read a book once about it and it was very interesting, but I'm sorry I can't think of the name of the book right now.

Sorry - you're in the wrong section. I think this is the "Christian bashing" section. I'm not sure where the "religion and spirituality" section is now...
