Nah,

We all have beliefs that may not be accepted by others. The fact that we believe we should embalm our dead, could be considered crazy by other societies.

Fundamentalists are just holding on, and hate change. Its a big bad scarry world out there, and fundamentalism is very comfortable. It allows you to say without worry, "thats God's Problem"
Fundamentalists don't have to worry about figuring out string theory or finding cures for disease. They don't have to worry about what Quantum Mechanics might mean to the human race. Its just "God said it, I believe it, Case Closed."

It actually solves a lot of stress, I guess. But putting ones head under the blanket doesn't really make the monsters go away does it.
