he said he would do a lot of things differently so it seems like he dosen't have a lot of experience of success with that particular problem..

Nobody has had experience with that particular problem. It was the most complicated broken leg that any one had ever tried to fix. (Technically, I'm sure someone else has somewhere along the line, but not many, and noone that we know of). Besides, you can't really choose which vet you take a horse to. You can't really load them up in a Ford Focus and haul them cross country to a different vet. So basically, while that vet learned more for the next time, nothing really could have been changed for this time.

No horse with Barbaro's injuries has ever survived. This was groundbreaking treatment. As with all groundbreaking treatment much is learned for others in the future. The doctor is quite accomplished to do what he did.

That vet is one of the top equine surgeons. Most people don't put that much time and money into trying to fix such a severe injury. Leg problems are the major cause of euthanasia/death for performance horses.
