The US Army and the US Marine Corps get the
same equipment together along with the rest of the US Armed Forces at the same time!!!!

Having been in both the Marines and the Army I can tell you that it is true that the newer gear does tend to go to the Army. It is because the Marine Corps just doesn't have the funding available to supply the Corps like the Army does. The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy and as such does not have the budget like the Army does. But they still get the job done!!!

What is your source? I think this statement is false.

As a Soldier, I'm biases toward the Army, but I wouldn't say that the Army always gets newer and better equipment then the Marines. I would also mention that the U.S Army is larger then the other four Services put together and all the Services generally use the same equipment, for example the M16 rifle/ M4 carbine and Black Hawk are used by all the U.S Armed Forces.

The Marines have new jets, amphibious attack ships, and hovercraft landing craft, so its just a different emphasis.

They both get the most perfect kit. you should maintain in ideas-The Marines make up in uncomplicated words 9 % or so of the entire US military. the military is considerbly more effective. The Marine Corps receives the optimal kit all around the Corps. the military fields there line instruments and SF those with the most perfect kit. Its the nutrition chain; the first and maximum perfect stuff is going to the human beings who choose it maximum. keep in ideas too that the challenge of the Marines is likewise different. As a Marine, i have had the excitement of operating with the military. they have a tremendous variety of sturdy human beings there and its no longer always the interservice competition that you listen about.

I served 6 years in the USMC, at installations for all four main services. The really BIG bucks in the more recent years have always gone to aviation, particularly Air Force and Navy. Infantry equipment has historically been handed out first to Army units and later to Marines. The US Army had already transferred to the M-16 rifle by 1968, yet Marines in infantry regiments were still being issued M-14 rifles as late as 1972. This is from my personal experience also as a Supply Chief in the 1st Marine Division. There is a well-worn rhyme:

The Navy gets the gravy,
The Army gets the beans,
But even that is twice as good,
As the crud they feed Marines.
(expletive deleted for good taste)

I always assumed that the Marines I worked with in Vietnam liked muzzle loading rifles?

But all a Marine needs is a K-Bar or an entrenching tool and besides "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is a good adage.

However, after any Marine unit moved across our firebase, we noticed that much was missing, I still want to put a claim in for two bottles of Jack Daniels and my May 1968 issue of Playboy magazine.

I was 101st Airborne: we never wanted new equipment: let someone else "Field test it" then we will think about adopting it.

In closing" I still miss my M-14.

Because the Army is an actual stand-alone Department, within the US DoD. The Marines are a Corps of the US Navy. However, the guy above me nailed it on the head. The DoD dispenses equipment equally amongst the three Departments.

I think the Marines sit back and let the Army be the test animals when new equipment comes out. If it does not work, no Marines are lost. Kind of like putting the dumb kid on point.
