I have worked with animals for over 2 years. I worked an an animal shelter as well and the best thing I can tell you is that animals are sometimes like people in these situations. you can have a person that is GREAT with other people however there will always be that one person that you dont get along with..same with dogs. Sometimes they just dont get along..However to answer your question about not knowing if she wants to eat them or play..I would need to know her body behavior. If she is anxious..andtucks her tail or back away more then likely she doesnt want to eat or play with them. shes scared. Dont leave them alone together just yet. Instead I would sit in the room with them and hold the cat and play with them to let the dog know that the cats are ok and vice versa...the best thing you can do is get them to interact with eachother..but dont leave the house and leave them alone because she may end up get so frieghtened that she bites of of them so just give them some time. If she wanted to attack she already would have and also they may just be establishing dominance...the cats are just letting her know whos boss..Hope that helps :0)

Why are so many people anti pit bull...most dogs don't like cats. If the dog goes into a bow position, called a play bow, he wants to play. If is tail is in the air, eyes fixed on the cat, and growls showing teeth, and is in general in a fixated with the cats, he doesn't like them. Some dogs will have a growl and something of a laugh. It's important for you friend to learn the sounds of both. That will help to determine as well. Don't listen to what people say about pit bulls. They're just like any other dog. Good luck

My friend ran into this problem as well. We found out that as long as we didn't let the dog think it was okay to chase or play with the cats, she left them alone. We also found a way to get them more used to each other. We would lay down with the dog and then have the cats come over too. Now the dog and cats get along fine. One of the cats even likes to cuddle with her at night. It seems most likely that it will just take the cats time to get used to your dog and then you will be fine.

For a while, don't leave the dog alone with the cats. You need to watch their interaction and interfere immediately -- with CALM, firm commands -- if the dog shows any sign of inappropriate behavior.

Eventually, the animals will get used to one another and learn one another's "signals". When they're feeling like they can "read" each other more appropriately, the hissing and other stress-causing behaviors will cease.

Thank you for adopting a shelter pit; it's often VERY hard to find suitable placements for Pits in adoptive homes.

I know someone who raised her pit with other dogs and cats. Five years later, she came home to a bloody mess with hair everywhere. The kitten she raised from 2 weeks of age was gone. A week later, she caught the dog attacking another one of the cats. With tear filled eyes, the dog was put to sleep. The sweetest dog, but ended up turning into a kitty lover in the wrong way.

Good luck.

I had a Staffie for 12 years that loved my cats. He loved them so much he would sometimes try to sit on them so they would stay in one place so he could lick them. Keep them seperate at first and slowly introduce them. Cats are very resistant to change but they will adapt given time.

Learn from this. In the future think these things out thoroughly before entering into them. Hopefully it will work out ok. If it doesn't, my money is on the dog winning.
