I mean bad in actions, abuse, and just a not so good person kicks the bucket. Why do the children go up and say good beautiful things about their dead parent, and the priest says good things too? Even if the guy was a complete loser. Is it because they are in denial, dont' want to say nothing bad or what?

Have you ever been to a funeral where a family member said bad things about their parent at the pulpit?

Because a person behaved badly doesn't mean the family members stopped loving them.

Death is a sad thing - even for those who are attending the funeral of a mean and nasty person. It is sad for the person who died because they were so bad and those at the funeral are hard-pressed to try come up with something nice to say about that person. When kids say kind things about their abusive parent who died, it doesn't necessarily mean they are in denial or don't want to say anything bad. It could be that every child has the right to have good feelings about both parents and to be able to feel that there is SOME good in them. A child's feelings of value as a human being are often tied up in how they are perceived, and along with this, how others perceive their looks, their personalities, their values, their attitudes, and yes, even their mean and abusive parent(s), does play a part in how these kids view themselves.

I think it is a kind and loving thing to say something positive about a person who died, when that person was mean and cruel to those around them. It shows that the human spirit is capable of love and forgiveness, compassion and mercy, despite the ugly things that others might do.

Hmm... Yes actually I have. You would be surprised at some of the thing people say at funerals.

One preacher I used to know in Arkansas was asked to preform a funeral for this one guy, he agreed and accepted the money etc..., upon researching the dead fellow's life he finds out he was a real dirty ball. (i.e. child abuser) So come the funeral service, the preacher man points this out.

I have also been to a funeral of a very good person who passed away were because they were not a Christian certain members of the family got up to speak and talked about how un-believers burn in hell. I found this to be incredibly rude.

It's all about denial. Nobody ever asks me to deliver a eulogy.

"When Frank's brain died, he ceased to exist in any form. He had no soul, nor do any of us. He didn't go anywhere, all that we see, this dead body here, is all there is. Frank was a real jerk, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who didn't appreciate his alcoholism or his loud, abusive rants. When I heard that Frank was dead, I breathed a huge sigh of relief, and felt really good about the fact that his kids won't have to spend the rest of their lives dealing with his ignorance. Guess that's all I have to say, have a nice day, everyone."

Because they loved the person, even though they were bad and they want to focus on the good things. Denial does have a little to do with it, yes, but that's just human. Sometimes denial helps us get threw life.

When anyone dies it is up to God to judge them and not those gathered around the remains, the Priest/Pastor has no right to judge, and even though some family members may have hated the deceased it still is not the done thing to be abusive.

Having respect for the dead is a concern for a good hearted person and not to punish the children and/or other living family members.

How does a bad person die? - With Regret on deathbed - Doing evil before dying or before on deathbed i.e. gambling just before yoou get a heartattack - Feeling thirsty - Feeling pain all around. - Alone when dying There is much more but time does not permit me to answer it all. Peace

One cannot make derogatory statements about someone who is unable to defend what is being said about them. Therefore the only things that can be said would be the nicest things a person could find to say.

The funeral is mostly for the famliy, not the person. It serves no purpose to diss the family.
