My 20-month old son is a bright kid. He is really smart in that he identifies objects, alphabets, numbers etc really fast. He understands words and also the context in which they are used. The problem is he is not able to identify colors. We have been trying to teach him colors but looks like that he cannot distinguish colors. Not a single color!! W e are really worried....shouldn't a 20-month old at least recognize basic colors like red, green etc? And especially if he is smart, healthy and active otherwise. What's wrong with him?

He may be color blind. It is not a huge deal; I have lived a good life with color blindness. I can do everything anyone else can, with the exception of matching my clothes. My wife would be doing that for me anyway! lol Talk to your pediatrician about it. But remember, it is not a huge deal. Millions of people have the same problem.

Your son is probably Color Blind. Color blindness is not a form of blindness at all, but a deficiency in the way you see color. With this vision problem, you have difficulty distinguishing certain colors, such as red and green or blue and yellow. Red-green color deficiency is the most common form of color blindness; a less common form is blue-yellow color deficiency.

My father is color blind. This could be his problem. They tend to see colors differently depending on what light it is in. Sometime something blue is green and sometimes it's gray. I'd get him to a doctor. If that is the problem, then it's nothing that will ruin his life. He just may need to ask for help once in a while when he needs to distinguish them.

Color blindness is much more common in males than females. 1 in 12 males have at least some color blindness. Total color blindness is rare, less than 1 in 10,000, but it happens.

give it a break. it's nice to have smart kids, but then when something is not as easily taught-the parents think there is something wrong.
he is only 20 months old. give it time. let him be a kid. he will learn his colors soon enough!

He still a baby, he will come around soon.
Just go slow with him.
Teach him colors riding down the road , like red car, blue car, etc.
or billboards.
