Oppositional Defiant Disorder is not something commonly seen in adults. Some of the criteria for diagnosis involve following the rules of adults or complying with those requests. Adults aren't typically supposed to comply with other adults' rules. They're expected to be able to make their own. See what I'm saying?
If there are no developmental lags (the "adult" is the mental equivalent of a child), it should be made sure that criteria aren't met for Antisocial Personality Disorder. If there ARE developmental lags, maybe the criteria for ODD are met, but the main intervention in that case would be to provide the type of supervised care that would be suitable for an adult with the cognitive and social impairments she or he is showing.
Look up Ross Greene's "The Explosive Child" or "Treating Explosive Kids". This guy does awesome work with oppositional/defiant behaviors.

Do you mean oppositional defiant disorder? It could very well be caused by allergy to something he's eating, or a chemical he's reacting to such as petroleum (plastics) etc.
If I eat beef, then tomorrow and the next day I turn into the Hulk. If I eat fish, then tomorrow and the next day I have an incapacitating headache. Soy - the white part used in ice cream, cream soups, cool whip, gets rid of a brain. Find a doctor who knows about food and chemical allergy (or sensitivity), and be tested, or ask a doctor to do a RAST test. I know from experience that foods can mess you up, but was SO grateful to find the cause! Might help you, too.
Two actifed (over-the-counter) and wait 20-30 minutes, quick test. If it helps, you'll see the difference that fast. Good Luck!
