I found a swelling under my arm a little smaller than a pea, which seemed to appear there over- night. It is slightly tender (sometimes) but not painful and is not fixed in place--it can be moved around. It also doesn't stay the same size. Often it is so small when I get up in the morning,or at various times of the day when I haven't been as active, that it is difficult to locate. Then it will go back to its orginal size after I've been moving around more, exercising, etc. I don't have any other swelling under that arm,the other arm,in the glands in my neck ,or anywhere else that I know of. Could the swelling be due to a infection,or an injury,or caused by something more serious?

Typically, it is caused by an infection that your lymph node is destroying.

A slight enlargement and softness means the swollen lymph node is succeeding in the tough battle. It is severely infected when the swollen lymph node enlarges more than 1 inch across.

If your swollen lymph node is over 2 inches across or the covering skin is pink, unfortunately it is losing in the tough battle. You should contact your health professional immediately.

A swollen lymph node not returning to normal size, which is about 1/3 inch across, after a month should be checked by a health professional.

There are a few reasons but the fact remains GET IT CHECKED!!! I know someone who had swollen Lymph Nodes in the armpit and had to get them drained since it actually was caused by a form of cancer *not to scare you*. You could just have an infection because of the flu but the best bet and safest is to go get it checked! Most likely you'll be fine.

Lymph nodes swell when fighting an infection. They keep the infection from traveling through the blood to the heart. It isnt anything to worry about but it can be painful. It wouldnt hurt to see a doctor about it if it continues.

It could be an ingrown hair or something more serious...like a tumor or cancer. If it were on me I would try to pop it if it attaches to the skin, if you can't make an appointment with your dermatologist right away.

Good luck, hope it works out
