There are people that have gotten cancer from second hand smoke! I read it in the newspaper, you could look it up,I think. So if that can happen, then yes, you are damaging your lung's. And you have to stop entirely so that your lung's can start to heal themselves.

Theres always a chance of lung cancer or heart disease, depending on if you are genetically inclined towards it. The tobacco smoke itself is only one of the problems - the numerous chemicals that cigarette companies use to treat the tobacco and the rolling papers to make them burn evenly and as preservatives include quite a few deadly carcinogens.
With that said, smoking the occasional cigarette probably isn't any more dangerous than breathing the air in most cities. I quit a pack a day habit almost eight years ago, and I might have the occasional smoke (usually bummed from a friend), they taste disgusting to me though, so I'm not concerned about getting hooked again. Be very careful - it has been proven that tobacco companies have been increasing the amount of nicotine in their cigs over the last decade or so in order to make them more addictive (fortunately for them, they've got the majority of politicians, media outlets, and other officials in their pocket, so noone is going to blow their cover).
Screw cigs though. Smoke a joint!

You can get lung cancer even if you don't smoke.
And yes, even 1 or 2 a day will increase your chances although there is a much lower risk than someone who smokes a pack a day.
If you want to smoke 2 fags a day then go ahead, there are worse things you could do.

There are no guarantee smoking a pack a day will cause lung cancer BUT you increase your chances drastically of contracting lung cancer, emphysema and other lung disorders with every cigarette you smoke. If that's a risk you are willing to take, it's your body. Just don't do it around others.

You don't even have to smoke any cigarettes to get lung cancer. I know someone who got lung cancer and never smoked. I know someone who is 90, has been smoking a pack a day since she was 20 and doesn't have lung cancer but has emphysema. I know someone else who quit smoking 20 years ago and just got lung cancer. You just never know.

90% of lung cancers happen to smokers. Please stop- it's no just the risk of cancer- you're clothes will smell awful, you're teeth can change colour, you can age faster, you will be looked at funny outside of buildings while you smoke, you will face constant nagging to stop smoking, you will be at an elevated risk for disease. I read on an article that those who used to smoke a lot and cut back were not any less likely to reduce their chances of sickness. Each cigarette takes time away from your life- talk to your doctor/pharmacist about how to stop. If you are smoking 1-2 cigarettes each day, and are not willing to shake the habbit, you may be addicted. Trust me, save yourself the worry and second guessing- try to stop. If you are really asking if the cigarettes will elevate the risk of disease for a loved one- make them aware of your concern, try to convince them to stop- they can. Smoking is an addiction and takes patience to stop. If you stop smoking, the lungs will eventually regenerate to a better state (much better than if smoking is continued). Good luck to you, I hope that all goes well.

Every time you smoke you increase the risk of cancer. I've heard your lungs start to recover (generally, not form cancer if you already have it) after you stop smoking but you have to stop completely.
Look up the number of different horrible chemicals which are in the smoke. If you have no chemistry knowledge then try to find a hazard data sheet for them online - if that doesnt make you stop nothing will.
Heres a start for you - Carbon monoxide, cyanide, various heavy metals, nicotene.....

The DENIAL! Why smoke 1 or 2 or 3 or 4....whatever when you KNOW how bad they are for you? Yes, you can still get lung cancer even with that amount. Absolutely.

Tons of medical documents say yes and then there are those who never smoked and die of lung cancer..?? Second hand smoke is supposed to be worse than actually smoking. Who knows for sure. Seems anyone who smokes is now considered an outcast. They need to mind their own business and go stand outside until I am finished with my cigarette.
