Ok so I have been on Effexor XR before and was taking 75mg/day. I had to come off the medication when I joined the army and to put it simple it was HELL! I was put back on it right before I got out the army. It has been about 8 mths being on it now. I was prescribed to take 150mg/day. Now that I am out the army I don't have health insurance and the VA can't prescribe it to me any time soon. I have 3 capsules left. When I realized I only had about 10 left I began pouring half a cap out and trying to taper that way. I am now pouring 3/4 of the cap out and taking it every other day. I feel AWFUL. Anyone who has come off effexor knows what I mean. Nausea, headache, dizziness, brain zaps, eyes hurt to move then, light sensitivity, vertigo, anxious, agitated and irritable to name a few. Will taking either Celexa or Trazadone make this transition any easier? And if so how would you recommend I take it and how much? Any tips tricks anything to help is GREATLY appreciated.

Effexor withdrawal is awful...of the 19 meds I have tried, weaning slowly off that one was an absolute must because of how intense the withdrawal was. I foolishly stopped cold turkey, not knowing any better (this was 13 years ago and the doctors tried to tell me Effexor doesn't have that kind of withdrawal...whatever!)and wound up in the ER. Do you actually have a doctor still? Ask for samples...or a prescription for a week or two even...if you could manage to pay out of pocket for it. If the original doctor that prescribed can't help you (and was a psychiatrist), call your primary doctor and ask them. Explain what's going on. Somebody may have samples they can give you.
I feel for you....what you are going through really sucks. I wish I could help more. I don't know if taking either of those other meds will help...they work on different neurotransmitters than Effexor (actually..not sure which neurotransmitters Trazadone effects) so I wouldn't think they would be all that helpful. This is really a question for your doctor. I think in the ER they gave me Ativan (or another one of the benzo's...anti-anxiety meds) which helped to some degree. (They actually gave me a shot in the @$$ that burned like heck.) If your doctor thinks that would help...you can get them in generic form really cheap.

There are places that can help you get meds, but I don't think any of them can get them for you immediately.
Check out these sites though....to find out for sure. Contacting the manufacturer directly is also an option.

drug companies will sometimes help you pay for or give you for free a medication you need. I'd contact the makers of effexor and see what the rules are and see if you can get a discounted or free refill.n

as quickly as I have been given off it, I chilly turkey'd it. It grew to become into terrible. Felt like I only stepped off a curler coaster after driving it for an hour immediately. i could get 'techniques shocks' and that i could be paranoid approximately each little thing. It took some week to start feeling extra sensible... then progressively it have been given extra sensible and extra sensible. consistent with probability you're weening your self off too quickly. i'm hoping you talked to your ob/gyn approximately it. Did he say you will possibly desire to come off? talk to your medical expert. i'm hoping you sense extra sensible quickly.
