I've long been an agnostic but I do hold out hope in a higher power and pray regularly despite my lack of faith.

I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks about this one road block I am constantly faced with. The major argument believers of God use is ... How could we exist if there were no God? Something had to create us.

Well, I ask you this -- WHO created God? By answering the question of God this way you only bring up another outstanding question. If we couldn't get here by ourselves, how could God?

God was not created - He always was, always is and always is to come. What is confusing to you is that you are limiting a limitless God by confining Him by space and time. God, being all powerful, created all things, including space and time - to God, time has no restrictions.

I think that oranges are ugly because they aren't red and shiny. Humans are not the same kind of beings as God. We are finite He is infinite. Think about what that means.. We have a beginning and we will have an end. That is what finite means. God had no beginning and will have no end.. How can a being with no beginning ever had had a creation? You say Christians don't make sense... I can't understand that reasoning at all... Can you think of the beginning of time? What was there before that? Time has always been it's a constant. How about space? Is there an end to space? What is non-space like? These are things that just are. God is a constant He Is.. He has always been.. Can you start to understand? Jim

My take is that God and a universe of finite actualities have always existed together. The great 20th century philosopher A.N. Whitehead said something to this effect: "It is as true to say that the world created God as it is to say that God created the world."

God is perceived by finite actualities as a lure for the actualizations of the possibilities God eternally envisages. Some of these possibilities God envisages appetitively, which is the source of our moral intuition. Yet finite actualities remain fundamentally free in their self-determination.

Traditional theism doesn't work. But there are other, more cogent forms of theism which are informed by the best current science and in fact helps illuminate it.

There is no means of surmounting the infinite. Astronomy shows us a finite universe. We can peer back 13 billion of the 13.7 billion year age that we have determined. What lies beyond the universe? What was there before the universe, and therefore, before time? You can't definitively answer these questions. God is a good answer, but it is neither the only possible answer, nor does it say much of the nature of God.

To whom is the bachelor married?

God, unlike the universe, had no beginning, so doesnt need a cause. In addition, Einsteins general relativity, which has much experimental support, shows that time is linked to matter and space. So time itself would have begun along with matter and space.

Since God, by definition, is the creator of the whole universe, he is the creator of time. Therefore He is not limited by the time dimension He created, so has no beginning in time God is the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity (Isaiah 57:15). Therefore He doesnt have a cause.

This is asked alot so let me explain. I believe God created our "space-time" universe. Since God is not subject to his creation, God didn't require a "beginning" unlike his creation (because God exists outside of time), God is also infinite (outside of space). The universe can't be started w/out the time dimension, therefore, I believe that God was the first "cause".
Think about is this way, A computer programmer is not subject to the functions of his program. God exists in an unconditional "circular" reality (no space or time) in which God always was, is , and will be, like a "circle"

The answers that many feel is a cop out is the only answer there is. God always was. He never ceased to exist and never will cease. I guess if we could understand everything then there would be no need for God.

It is a question that boggles even the best of us. No human can truly answer that question as God has never revealed that to us. I suppose one day He will tell us, but I don't suppose that will be until we meet Him again personally.

If you want real proof of the existence of God, it will require a certain amount of work on your part. God does reveal Himself to all who truly desire to know if His existence. Those who truly desire to know humble themselves before Him and open themselves to be teachable. Then, go somewhere where you can have some privacy and get down on your knees. As you kneel there, pour out your heart to your Heavenly Father. He knows your heart, and if you are truly ready to follow His will, he will reveal Himself to you by sending His Spirit. The feeling you the Holy Ghost gives you is undeniable and you will know that God exists.

The apostle James in the Bible guarantees that God listens to our prayers when he said: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." (James 1:5)

God does answer the prayers of the humble. I know this to be true as He has answered my prayers more times than I can count.

The answer is that it is beyond out capability to understand.

But consider this....all such questions involve a 'where', a 'what', a 'when'. These all infer dimensions to creation, spatial and time. God, as the architect of creation is necessarily outside of it. Thus, when we ask these questions in reference to God, they have no meaning as the points of reference from which we seek to define the problem only exist within our universe and don't apply to God.

oh silly rabbit, tricks are for kids that's how; beyond our comprehension ; you come to the table thinking that we can possibly understand God, his plan, his being, his power, his existence; we will never be able to be on the same level and when you invest your time to try to topple him by your human capability , you are trying to put yourself on the same level as God and that is the problem; we have a hard time of figuring out what we have been given to date, and that is a mystery, the ocean, the stars, planets, what happened to the dinosaurs etc; we are not on the level of God ; hard enough to try to figure yourself , emotions, motivations, feelings etc; we can't even begin to try ; not your job not your place ; figure out world peace; figure out how to be a good person every day ; not easy is it? now you are trying to figure out God ; yeah right
