Babysitting! You could get a gift cert for the supermarket she shops at so she can get diapers or for Target for onesies.

If you were thinking for something more personal how about a manicure/pedicure. Or a frame for a picture of her and the baby.

A gift certificate for a massage, manicure or pedicure if she's into that. Also, gift certificates for restaurants are nice too, especially some place that has carry out as well. No new mom wants to cook, so even if she can't get out to a restaurant, having hubby pick up dinner is great too. Also, new mom's don't have the energy for cleaning, so a gift certificate for a cleaning service would come in handy too. Trust me, even if she's not excited about it in the hospital, she would appreciate it when she needs it.

A good gift for a new mon is a gift card. By now she probably has a whole lot of gifts that she didnt even want or will not use and she is stuck with the hassle of the exchange on top of having a newborn at home. With a gift card she can get exactly what she needs. You can never go wrong with a gift card.

It would be nice for a new mom to have things to pamper herself, remind her of her feminine beauty which sometimes is hard when you were 8-9 months pregnant. LIke bath oils, lotions, foot massage ointments and creams, rub on lotions with fragrance, anything like this that is pampering to that person, a gift certificate for a day at the spa or something at the spa like a massage.

I heartily concur with 'A postpartum woman needs lots of rest, not a new hairstyle.'

I'm not interested in massage at the best of time, have a preference in hair salons, no interest in 'spas,' and do _not_ expect to be skipping out alone to the salon with a very new newborn.

Good food and a clean house, I think. But if you want something to show up at the hospital with, jewellery never hurts. It doesn't have to be expensive.

A luxurious but easy-to-wash bathrobe would be thoughtful, too.

A massage. Either a full body massage, or even a foot massage with a pedicure- which you can get at any nail salon. Or, you can also get her some sort of foot massager/ bubbly foot soaker. A new mom hasn't seen her feet in so long that she will really appreciate the gift.

A gift certificate for a massage. She may not be able to use it right away, but she will really appreciate it in a few weeks. It shouldn't be any more than flowers, either.

Maybe some nice perfume, the best tihng somebody did for me after i had my daughter was made a pile of dinners, lasagna, shepards pie , cabbage rolls etc that i could put in the freezer, so i didn't have to worry about cooking on top of everything else. Or maybe a pretty nighty to wear after she gives birth .

My most favorite gift after my child was born was a nightgown that felt good on my sore body, but most women like things to just pamper themselves with. Something to make them feel good. A massager might be nice.

Get her a gift certificate at a hair salon or a day spa and offer to babysit when she goes to use her gift certificate.
