There were 5 or 6 passengers who survived the Air Florida Flight 90 crash in Washington DC. The plane crashed about a minute after takeoff, because it was unusually cold and icy and there was so much ice buildup on the plane, it was too heavy to gain altitude and it crashed into a bridge. This happened 25 years ago almost exactly (late Jan. 1982). I just heard a story about this on NPR because it was the 25th anniversary.

Of course, it wasn't like the plane crashed in the middle of the ocean or something, and the altitude was pretty low. However, there likely would have been more survivors if the river wasn't so cold.

I'm sure there have been more too...

Yes- an Air Florida flight crashed into the Potomac back in the 80's and several pepople survived- so obviously the flight attendant instructions helped. There have been others but I can only think of this one right now.

Ya!! probably not on EVERY flight EVERY airline...
It depends really on how you land on water.
And of course the instructions given by f/a have saved lifes. The intense training they recieve from the airliner is used to save lives.
Or else why would they have training?
