I recently made a Jewish friend, and he's sooooooo sweet and wonderful! It's like we're two peas from the same pod! I tell him that he's my long lost twin! Haha!
Not that its a big deal or anything, cause it really isn't, but I'm just wondering if Jews drink or not. I don't really wanna ask him, cause that could be awkward coming out of the blue! I know he celebrates the holidays, but I highly doubt that he's Orthodox.
So, do tell.........

Yes Jewish people are allowed to drink. In fact, it's a big part of their culture especially when it comes to games and such. Passover is also a very big wine drinking holiday. FYI: The term Jews can offend many of Jewish descent.

Yes it is legal for the Jews to drink alcohol
In fact, most alcohol is kosher.
For Passover we consume four cups of wine
JazzyJ the holiday was not Rosh Hashanah it was Purim and it had nothing to do with Abraham. We get drunk on that holiday until the point that we cannot differentiate between Mordecai and Haman (who tried to kill the Jews). It is in the story of Esther.
Vodka is a kosher drink as is whiskey, rum, cognac, and all other spirits.

Yes, Jews can drink alcohol. Wine in an integral part of Jewish religious practice. Jews also drink in a social manner. At most synagogues there is a group of (mostly guys) people who step out at one point in the service to take a few shots of whisky. We call it kiddish club. Kiddish is the blessing used on wine.
The holiday refered to above, where one must get drunk, is Purim. Purim celebrates the story of Esther, and is a very very fun holiday where people put on costumes, play music, have a party, and are supposed to drink, "until they cannot tell the difference between a blessing and a curse." It has to do with the story of Esther and curses in it. In synagogue when the story of Esther is read, and the name "Haman" (the bad guy) is mentioned everyone is supposed to boo and hiss and scream and use noise makers. Imagine that when drunk...

It's not wrong for Jewish people to drink. Wine is a key part of the Passover feast. My college professor, a Rabbi, got drunk one night and came to class the next session with a huge cut and bruise on his forehead. He explained that people of the Jewish faith believe that they must drink until drunk, based on some priestly law, having to do with Abraham, in the Hebrew Testament. Go figure! This occured, however, that one time of the year, during one of the Jewish feasts. I want to say it was Rosh Hashanah maybe?

I used to go to this wonderful Jewish Temple with a friend of mine on the last Friday of every month. They would have live musicians along with their sermon, they called it Friday Night Live! And every time at the end we would go to tables in the back and eat some snacks foods that were brought in. Occasionally, they would have a special event fall on that night and along with our usual snacks, they would pass around small cups with wine, and we would all raise our cup and someone would say a few words and we would all toast and drink! What a good time that was, on those Friday Night Live show nights.

Jews are allowed to drink alcohol,no problem with that. But they are allowed to get drunk only on one festivity, and that's Purim. Otherwise it is forbidden to drink until you get drunk.
