He does have free will, however he doesn't believe he can lose, as seen by human history his influence is strong.

I am going to take you into a thought process that may explain and thus help you to understand that Satan is an imaginary foe. Good & Evil, Yes & No. Man or Woman, Up or down, Either or, Mirror image, Ying and Yang, Brother/Sister, Male / Female. What am I saying? Satan is a man made deterant to induce a form of obedient behaviour. God wrote no book nor did he inspire such. The Stars, Earth, Moon, and all else that we call matter existed before man came about and created religion.
Simple Logic can make your question irrealvant if it was not for the short comings of the minds of men.

I've always found it a bit puzzling myself. Before Satan was cast into Hell he was an angel, and not just any angel. He was the angel of light. The most beautiful of all the angels. He exercised his free will, got up a band of other angels to follow him and tried to take control. It seems like a pretty dumb move on his part, but then again, look around here at all the people who are trying to take the place of God.
For his rebellion God threw him out of Heaven along with his followers.
The reason why Satan continues to fight this battles is because he thinks he can win. Really dumb on his part.

A fighter is always told he is going to lose, but he always fights anyway. Satan is limited by God. Read the Book of Job in the Bible.

Aside ffrom the basic premise of your question that Satan is an independent agent against God (that's idolatry)...the concept of knowing one is going to lose but goes on anyway is very common.
For example, every year 25000 people enter the NYC Marathon yet only about 100 or so entertain any hopes of winning. So why to the rest bother?

God has planned salvation from the beginning and has allowed satan to rule the earth right now- but satan will be cast into the lake of fire and be bound- and Christ has the victory-this life is temporary and that is why salvation in Christ is so important--everything God has planned from the beginning is to make His riches and glory known.

I'm not sure about the "not fair for a fighter" and "cheesy" parts. But given the extordinary length of time Satan has had to think about it, you'd think he'd come to his senses.

Hmm good question.. After all he was a fallen angel, why did he turn bad, did gods smugness grate on him too much?
God is cheesy, he is the smegma on Satan's swollen bell end.

Yes. He wanted the power the Lord has, he had free choice to choose wither he wanted to be with God or to try be the lord himself. Humans also have that free choice as well. What will you choose?
