You probably have a slow metabolism. Your body doesn't require as much oxygen as other people do.

It's just because you are concentrating on your breathing and are not being distracted by activities.

Also when we are not expending energy our breathing naturally slows down.

Perhaps you need something to interest you? Sometimes we concentrate too much on our health and can really make ourselves very worried unnecessarily.

I just read your other questions. What is good is that you are posting questions. Also you are aware of all these feelings and KNOW THAT THEY ARE NOT WHAT YOU WANT. That is very important. Because those with true mental illness think the strange thoughts and feelings are normal. They believe they ARE Teddie Roosevelt, or whoever. So you are normal.

What you need, is professional help ASAP!!!! To deal with the aftereffects of the substance abuse plus cognitive therapy to deal with the other issues.

A normal respiration rate can be little as 8 and as high as 22. Since I can't tell what yours is, have someone else do a count. You can't do this yourself. A respiration is an inhalation and an exhalation. They start the count on exhalation and count for 15 seconds. Everytime you exhale it's counted. In-out (1), in-out (2), in-out (3), etc. Multiply this number by 4 and that's your respiration rate. Of course, they need to do this when your're not talking, are rested and sitting and are not conscious of it, otherwise your awareness will affect the rate. Once done, compare your rate to the normal range. My guess is that your rate will fall somewhere in between the low and the high.
