The lightning emits huge amount of energy. Is there any means by which we can gather all the energy emitted? This will in turn help us in supplying electricity to the electricity scarce areas and by attracting the lightning towards the "energy storing" plant,it will also help lessen the disaster produced by lightning on the residential areas.

WOW If you could figure out a way to store the electricity and it would have to be some type of device that would instantly charge accepting a large amount off juice in a split second or so .

; Nano detonators ;are the way to go. Look it up

And look at all the forests (trees) it would save from lightning caused forest fires? First, you need a "key" and then a kite!
It worked for Ben Franklin! The capturing of same is the problem!
I think, you need to work on the source of the electricity generated that way. The sun warming the air, and its movement upward, as in the wind generators, that is a more controllable source, and even flowed. Look at those wind generators, placed in the passes leading into a desert area! Wind is generated as the sun heats the air in the desert areas, and air (wind) flows in to fill the void created! That is cheap (sun light) and clean,
(no burning of fuels required) and after the expense of the "fans"
generators, other that maintenance, it is free! Now, you may
have problems with people who don't think those wind generators
are something that they want in THEIR back yard, or ocean view!
You might ask Ted Kennedy about that one! It's in the
Book, "Do As I Say, (Not As I Do)" by Peter Schweizer.

It would make sense if you could reliably predict the location of lightning storms....I'd imagine that the cost of setting up a plant that would store that electricity would far exceed the amount of power gathered by random events of lightning.

For every 5 seconds between the time you see the flash of lightening and the sound of thunder, the storm (lightening) is 1 mile away. For example, if you count off 15 seconds until you here the thunder the lightening is 15/5=3 miles away.

No, this is impossible as you cannot store electricity and this would be dangerous in the first place. It would also be very unpredictable, making it an unsuitable energy source, as reliability is very important in supplying energy,

Tesla believed something like that could be used for power, but I don't see it because it isn't constant and dependable. It is a billion watts for a millionth of a second at irregular times and places.
