i didn't say "hump other dogs" i said she sits on top of them. as if they are couches. it's very odd. she is quite laid back and i can't imagine her even wanting to seem dominant.

Definitely dominance. Just not the aggressive type. I'd guess your dog is fairly laid back and just wants to 'kinda' tell other dogs that he's the boss.

My dog does the same thing! He is so submissive to most dogs and people but I noticed that with puppies and younger dogs, he tends to be a little more aggressive. He sometimes growls at them and then props his head up above them and then he tries to sit on them; usually in a reverse position (tail to other dogs head) as if to say, "sniff me, I'm the dominant one here!" Been trying to get him to stop. Every time he tries to do it I tell him "be nice" and push him off. Anyone has any suggestions?

Your dog is showing the other dogs that it's the dominant dog. It's showing that it's not afraid and will stand it's ground if need be. This habit will eventually go away but until your dog is willing to stop don't be concerned until it starts sitting on you.

Your dog is trying to establish its dominance over other dogs in its vicinity.

Also, you're dog can be dominant with some animals and submissive with others. Just because your dog is laid back with you doesn't mean that it won't express dominance toward other creatures, especially with creatures that it perceives as weaker or more submissive than itself.

my dog is most submissive, tho she also gets on top of other dogs and i don't mean humping either.
we were at the dog park when a new puppy made its debut visit.
don't know why my grrly tried to lie on top of the poor little thing.
....it was about the time of her first season and I suspect she is trying to fulfil her maternal instincts
