No, something's wrong.

If there's nothing withheld, then there's nothing to be refunded.

The IRS has to have taken your money from you before they can give it back.

They fed isn't a private company. they seem to be a non-earnings, self sustaining, quasi-public entity of the government and all their income pass to the Treasury. Why could a non earnings entity could pay earnings taxes while they have not have been given any earnings in the 1st place? How does that make sense? i'm beneficial the Board of governors and persons interior this entity already pay earnings tax. in the past you criticize the Fed of not paying earnings tax you may tell the executives of financial corporation of u.s. to pay their taxes, for the reason that financial corporation of u.s. is incredibly completely privately owned. So, Sound of the silenced, in case you get rid of the Fed who is going to be there to freshen up the trash Wall highway leaves at the back of?

Yes, if ur over 25, no children, and make less than $12,000 a year you get EIC or if you have dependents you get it. I was a full time college student & only worked part time, made under 10k. And my employer didn't take any federal taxes out of my pay, but I'm getting back several hundred dollars, because of deductions & credits.

Earned Income Credit (and there may be other ways). Basically the government rewards you for working rather than being on public assistance. When I was married with kids, our income was less than $25,000 and we would normally get something like $3000-$3500 back - which was everything deducted from Federal Withholding plus Earned Income Credit.

The Earned Income Tax Credit and certain other credits can give you more back than you pay in.

There is an earned income credit for low income people with dependents. You can get back more than you pay. You can actually fill out a form with your employer and receive the money back with each paycheck.

my guess is tax credits. Some people will get more back than they pay in due to earned income tax credits. I don't think it's fair but then I pay in taxes.

The other option is that they cheated.

Well...the person on disability isn't eligible for any refund at all.Disability benefits aren't taxable, therefore they paid nothing in.If they are getting a refund and their only source of income is SS,then they are committing fraud.EIC is only for those who have an earned income,SS isn't an earned income.

Normally, you can't get back more than you paid into the system.

This is a question for an accountant, though it is possible they are committing tax fraud.
