Carfax is your best bet. There aren't many sites more thorough than them. You will have to pay (I believe it's about $20 per vehicle), but it's a small price to pay for the knowledge you'll get from the report. Also, they do a few free checks on that site (lemon check, etc). Try it out; if you need more info than that, you're going to have to pay for it.

I've seen threads on www.slickdeals.net about how to get those free, but it's hit or miss at best. And then there are the arguments about which report is best...

You'll need someone with a Carfax account.
Or you could get a carfax account. If you are car shopping, you should have one.
