I usually stereotype christians as brainless, aggresive, and egocentric.
Yesterday I met a kid who was christian who knew where Portugal was on a map....
I was spellbound.

for some reason we need to group people into something instead of just looking at the individual. after seeing a few of the same type of people from that group we develop a stereotype toward them. having a stereotype of a group of people cannot be helped because thats the way we see things. however, instead of judging people by those generalizations we should try to ignore the sterotype and see the actual person. there are far too many stereotypes in the world and most of them are negative.

stereotypes are created from either personal experience or popular perception. It's how your brain tries to make sense and organize things...one event/person may not be enough information for your brain to make a stereotype, but if you've been treated a certain way by a certain type of people many times...you would learn to recognize common patterns of behavior and then expect and anticipate the same behavior from others in the same group.
Of course, people are individuals so a stereotype may sometimes fit, or it may be completely incorrect, depending on the person.

It's our nature, we like grouping things together because it is simpler, if we saw each and every person as an extremely separate entity unto itself...well our brains can't handle that much information, besides humans have a habit of "conforming" for lack of a better word, we like being part of the herd, and naturally when large numbers of people look and act like each other we can group them...we do it with everything...

we stereotype because and when individuals, naturally or through contrivance, take on the characteristics of each other and thus form a group. externally displayed group identity causes outsiders to generalize. this sometimes benefits the group as in the white male and sometimes this is a detriment as in the circumstance of the African slave. if the stereotype is one of power it is a benefit to the group being stereotyped. if the stereotype is humiliating and nullifying of power it is a detriment.

I don't. In fact I hate it and fight stereotyping of all kinds. I appreciate everyone for who they are as an individual and don't need to fit everyone into a convenient little "box".

Hmm. I have a tendency to think blondes are slightly more attracted to superficial things than brunettes. However, one of my friends can do circles around me when it comes to math, so I am careful what I say.
