Mostly, we fear that Christians will attempt to force their beliefs and morality on us, forcing us to live the way they decide they want us to live, rather than according to our own beliefs, morals and ethics.
We also fear that fundamentalist Christians will degrade our education system so badly, especially in the field of science, that it is impossible to follow logic and reason to critically examine physical evidence that allows us to understand how the universe actually operates.
Based on the Christian opposition to such things as marriages that don't fit their definition of marriage, families that don't fit their definition of family, reproductive rights, stem cell research, religious observations in public arenas, and the teaching of such things as evolution in schools, these are very real and plausible fears.

What do some non-Muslims (and especially Christian ones) fear from Muslims?
They drone on and on the hate towards Muslims, so my question is: What's all the fear about...especially if Muslims are all fools?
Here's your answer, and mine as well:
That they will forceably submit the rest of us to their repressive laws and beliefs. That if they assume gain the power they so desire, they will take away our liberties and our freedoms, which they despise. That in their ignorance and self-righteousness, they will put their own beliefs above the ideals of democracy, and in doing so, destroy them both.

What I fear, personally, is that the fundamentalists will gain enough power that they will pass laws affecting me and my (future) children based on Biblical teachings. That someday I will be fired for being a Wiccan and have no legal recourse because I'm not of an "accepted" religion. That my children will not be able to put a Pentacle on my gravesite years from now when I die. That my children will face ridicule and harrassment at school because their mother is a witch, and the faculty will do nothing about it because I'm not a Christian. That my children will come home crying from school because they were told mommy is going to hell and that scared them. That we will end up a theocracy where what non-Christians want, say, feel, think and believe is close to illegal because we don't follow the Bible.
I'm afraid that fundamentalists - not all Christians, specifically fundamentalists - will take away my freedom of religion.

First, most atheists and non-christians don't hate christians. We hate some of the things that you do (that should sound familiar if you are really a christian). Second, we fear some of the ideas that christians espouse because they violate basic freedoms and rights. Christians want everyone to live the way that they think is right, regardless of personal beliefs. And they are working very hard in politics to force their opinions and beliefs on the rest of us. Christians believe that their way is right and everyone else is wrong, which is a very dangerous mindset. If given the chance, they would strip the rest of us of our right to live our lives the way we choose.
As for you all being fools, I think misguided is a better choice of words.

Why is this so hard to understand that Christians actually have to ask?
Christians are trying to turn their religion into law. And THAT is something to be afraid of.
Don't believe me, how about this?
The religious are trying to make gay marriage, abortion, and stem cell research illegal. And that barely begins to scratch the surface.
You are trying to force everyone to live by your religion.
Ever see V For Vendetta? Terrifying isn't it? Well, if some of the fundis had their way, that's exactly what it would be like.
Christianity doesn't have everyones well being at heart because it doesn't recognize the exceptions to the rule to be valid. It also supports the worst kind of prejudice, hatred, and intollerance.
And those things are all something to be very afraid of.

Quoting Laura: "You forcing your beliefs into laws. There are so many "christian" politicians out there already trying to get them passed. "
See, this is ignorance. This person obviously does not have a clue who's getting the laws passed. HELLO LAURA, we're not the ones getting laws passed! Kids can't pray in school because of you, we have no more christmas because of you, people are using abortion as idiot birth control because of you, the 10 commandments can't even be shown in public because of you, no crosses can be around to offend the overly sensitive athesits, because of you, so get your head on straight and pay attention to the fact that this country is falling in the pits because of you. Drive by shootings and kids killing kids in school, because you're so scared the kids might hear the word "God", you've taken him away and now these kids have no reference point, no moral compass. The parents aren't the ones who were giving the kids morals apparently, it was the schools, and now you've got your way, yet you're blaming us for opposing you. You won, and you don't even have the common sense to have figured that out. What I don't get is why you guys are saying we're passing all the laws? What laws? Did abortion become illegal and I missed it or what? Last I heard idiots are still having abortion after abortion because they can't be bothered remembering to take a pill or a monthly shot, can't be held responsible for their actions, just kill the baby, way more convenient. So thanks atheists, you've just done a bang up job. Pretty soon, except for the drive by shootings and school shootings, we'll be just like China.
Oh, and by the way all you people answering who apparently know zilch about the US school systems, they teach evolution, they do not teach creatonism, never have, unless you send your kid to a private religious school, which quite honestly wouldn't surprise me. I can just see you guys sending your kids to private religious schools, then suing because they taught religion. That's what this country has become, a bunch of idiots. So you see, you're arguing over something and you don't even have anything to argue about. Mindless protestors who don't even know what they're protesting.

I don't hate all Christians. But I have a lot of problems with some of the hateful beliefs that CHristians hide behind their religion with. Instead they say, I didn't say that, the bible did, I just happen to believe in the Bible.
If you have a belief in something that is hateful and bigoted, than you are hateful and bigoted.
Christians want to take over the US and the world with their missons to places where people are ignorant and hungry and duping them into being Christian. Preying on little children and telling them and indoctrinating them with fear. So much fear that
they run away or beat up people that don't believe the same way that they do.
Christianity is a hateful and awful religion,. I respect your right to believe in in. But don't act like you are high and mighty for believing in something so putrid.

Fools who preach fear and hate, have no tolerance for anyone who thinks different, and who happen to hold most of the political power in the western world. Fools who try to impose their warped views on others through lobbying to get laws changed in their favour. Fools who believe in the rapture and don't care about this planet, or about dying because they think they get to go to paradise...those same fools have access to Nuclear weapons and the means to destroy our world. What do you think we're afraid of? When ignorance is in power, everyone suffers.

The efforts to impose a theocracy on Americans, which has had some success, but due to rational thought of some, not total success. Here's the evidence:
Efforts to enslave women by restricting their reproductive rights.
Efforts to criminalize, jail, and otherwise demonize homosexuals.
Efforts to institute religion in science classes.
Efforts to restrict the medical research into embryonic stem cells.
Efforts to put religion into the state buildings, e.g., the 10 commandments.
And even more.
These are worth both fearing and fighting against.

I don't fear or hate christians. My family is christian. What I fear is that our laws are being overtaken by the religious right. Religion should be kept OUT of our laws and government. They are not a mix and match.
