I can't comment specifically about California, but virtually everywhere I've practiced, INJECTING drugs is limited to licensed (read RNs, LPNs) staff, not MAs, no matter how experienced.

Look at the state board of nursing's website. They should list what an MA can and can do.

A medical assistant can inject any "medication" a Dr. instructs them to, however if your question is more, "Are psychotropic drugs used/legal in california?" I wouldn't know the anwser.

A medical assistant can in-fact dispense and administer drugs either in a pill or "needle" type form - upon the doctor ordering them to do so.
