Not too macho please, and I am a complete beginner. Thanks.

Northcarlight: There's nothing wrong with male teachers at all! What I meant was, I would be intimidated going into a club which is full of adult black belts! If I was the only women / beginner I would feel out of place. I was hoping there was a club which has a nice mix of ages / belts and male / female members. No offence intended to men.

No! Move to Scotland

Check out your local leisure centres and gyms for details of when a class runs, there is a ladies only class near me, the instructors are both male so what that about then? You will see that the junior ranks are in the majority, the senior black belts are in the minority. I started at my club as it was on an evening that I had nothing else on. Go on and insult men - they wouldn't be men if they couldn't take it. GO MACHISMO!!!

Joking by the way

i think you should check the s.k.u.g.b site first on the net ,go and have a look and decide before you take part or just go to a local karate club and do the same . use your instincts ,if it feels right, talk to students ,Sensei and make your decision ,for or against
