I remember as a child my parents using the old-fashioned way of poking at it with a needle and tweezers. I started to try that route but my 2yr old daughter got scared at the sight of the needle. Does anyone have a tried-and-true way that is easier?? I'm scared of doing it wrong and causing an infection.

Try to soak the area of the splinter in warm water. The splinter should soak up in the wood (if that is the kind of splinter it is) and help to push it's way out of the skin to the point where it can easily be grabbed by tweezers.

If it's a simple splinter, there should be no cause for an infection by using a sterile (use rubbing alcohol on everything) needle and/ or tweezers. You just *barely* pick at the skin that's over the splinter. Not scrape, not dig. Just barely pick at it in very tiny swipes, like less than a millimetre at a time. I hear that you don't want to so leave this as a last resort in case the alternatives fail. No matter what you do, finish with a bit of neosporin or mecuracome or merthiolate (antibiotic/ antigerm stuff).

First, be careful to no longer rigidity the splinter added in. 2d, you may stick to a small quantity of benzocaine to the positioning to decrease sensation. third, immobilize the infant so which you're no longer struggling with to maintain the area nonetheless. you may take a sheet and wrap it around the physique and legs if mandatory or get help. If the splinter is protruding a physically powerful tweezerss can grab the top. Pull slowly so as that it does no longer smash interior. If the splinter isn't protruding, then a needle or the sting of the tweezer may be used to widen the hollow. do no longer pierce or decrease blindly. in case you have any doubt to whether you're following the path of the splinter, seed scientific suggestions.

If a part of the splinter is sticking out, take Elmer's Glue (regular works better than their school glue as the school glue has a more liquid base) and pour some over the splinter. Let it dry. Once dry, pull it off the skin (and that won't hurt). The wood will be "glued" to dried section and will come out...usually pretty painlessly.

Try using sticky tape and use that to try and yank it out. It worked for me when I was a child and slammed my hand down on a cactus. Ouch. But the tape pulled out the quills.

Try sticky tape, press it firmly over her hand and peel off.
If it didn't work the first try, try it again.
