All other utilites bill for services already provided...why do cables get to bill you in advance of service provided?

Switch to Directv, better quality, better everything and the equipment is free.

I find that cable companies are not worth the hassle, they over charge. I would highly suggest you think about Direct TV, and if you’re using a computer at home go through the phone company or others for DSL.
I used cable in Los Angeles, and New York City. I was not happy with them, problems with billing all the time, problems with the system they gave to take home, some channels never came in.

You look at it from the wrong angle. I guess because we are in a world of credit purchases. Look at it instead in the way it is - You buy the service you want to use for the month at the beginning of the month. They do not bill you in advance, you buy their service for that month.

Probably to avoid having to collect the money when you cancel service.
