I was just informed at the pharmacy that generic is available. He mention some people not liking the generic for some reason and going back to brand name. I was just wondering if anyone has noticed a diffence in switching. Thanks.

Here is what I understand (I'm no expert, just learning):
There are two kinds of Wellbutrin.
Wellbutrin XL is an extended release - it continues to be released into your body all day (or for some extended amount of time)
There is another Wellbutrin, I don't remember the letters at the end of that one (maybe SR?), but it is not extended release. There IS a generic for that one (bupropion) but not for XL.

So, if you are on XL and you switch to generic, you're going to be switching to another form of medication. I hope that the pharmacist wasn't planning on allowing you to make that substitution because it is something you'd need to discuss with your doctor first.

Wellbutrin Xl (bupropion HCl extended-release tablets) is presented in 2 doses: 150 and 300 mg

If you are on XL 150mg (or 300mg) and you switch to generic, you should find Bupropion "XL" 150mg Pill (or 300mg Pill) then it'll be ok.

If they are both extended release forms, there should be no difference. However, if you are going from an extended release to regular release, you might need more doses of the regular release. The generic and brand work exactly the same.

i dont know about welbutrin, but the gereric zoloft did not work for me.i feel that if the welbutrin is working for you...dont mess with it.the money you may save is not worth it if you go through a couple months of bad results and the hassle of switching back.
