I have having a beach wedding and I need some good ideas and lots of them. It is going to be Oregon and in July. I am just trying to come up with the ideas now. So that I can search around and not spend a arm and a leg. Because my sister got married in Kent Washington and they got married with in 1 1/2 of their engagement. So we had about a month to get everything together. And I don't want to have that stress on me or on the others that are helping me. I want a beautiful elegant beach wedding. Not a Hawaiian beach wedding or a cheesy one either. So if you guys could help me out that would be great.

**For your "alter" area...get a white metal frame garden arbor and adorn it with flowing tewell netting, chiffon, organza...whatever you find that you like--check WalMart for clearance fabrics...I found some for my wedding there and I only pd .75/yd so I cleared them out! Decorate your arbor w some flowers and long ribbon streamers that will flow freely when the wind blows...
**line the "isle" with large river stone...using flower petals will just blow away and tiki torches may cause a problem if yours or someone elses dress gets blown into one. If you wanted something "taller" to line your isle you could also place a "stake" of some sort every 4 ft or so decorated w/a floral arrangement on top and ribbon or netting streamers...

you really don't have to do too much for the ceremony decorations...let the surroundings be your decor...all eyes are going to be on you and your soon-to-be, so focus any of your decor attention to the alter area...but keep it simple.

If you'd like some other ideas for either the ceremony or reception....please feel free to email me, I'd love to help!

A good friend of mine married on the beach and it was absolutely beautiful. The main suggestion I would make - if you are looking for flawless beauty in the pictures - is to do what they did. They were married on the beach at sunrise. That eliminates the stragglers (sometimes drunk) that hang around on the beach late in the afternoon. The sand was beautiful, no footprints or trash laying about. I cannot stress just how peaceful and beautiful it was. There were no interruptions or distractions what so ever. I would also recommend a plan 'b' just in case of rain. There are usually small chapels near the beach that you could speak with about having them on 'standby'. Having the wedding that morning made the service so very intimate and again, so very beautiful. We were all barefoot with light ankle length dresses and the photos of the newlyweds standing by the ocean as the sun was coming up behind them is a picture that could have come straight out of a professional photo shoot.

Beach weddings can be beautiful but in certain places like uh, Oregon the beach can be a very unpredictable place. That's why people choose churches because churches aren't unpredictable. If it rains, clouds over, no matter what the show will go on. At a beach if the tide comes to high, or clouds are in the sky it will make the whole thing gloomy, and sand on a wedding day just isn't a good idea. Beaches are too unpredictable unless you have a party of five which I'm sure you're family is more than that. Beaches are cold don't forget that and the wind is stronger because of the tide, I would please ask you to reconsider your location choice, and hire a wedding planner. Good luck hon!

I just wrote out a long answer and my connection timed out! bummer!

I would suggest a sunset wedding, with lots of candles. Buy candles in different shapes and sizes and have them everywhere. A ceremony on a cliff overlooking the ocean might be better so then you don't have to climb down to the beach.

Have you considered having a wedding at or near a lighthouse? The Oregon coast has lots of beautiful lighthouses that would make a beautiful backdrop.

To save money, check into hiring local university/trade school students for the photography and catering. You might even be able to get a cooking school to use it as a "class assignment". Be sure, of course, to check references and portfolios.

I don't know if you've heard of IKEA (in Kent, I believe...or somewhere near the Southcenter mall, and a new one being built in Portland) but they are a great source for inexpensive -- but AMAZING -- candles, decorations, and tableware. www.ikea.com

I don't really remember what else I had originally posted...But good luck!

Congratulations! I think a beach wedding is the way to go, forst of all just to make it less formal and still elegant I don't think you should wear shoes its kinda like wearing a formal gown in a ballroom if you know what I mean and do it at sunset the most beautiful time of day. Your colors arent really going to matter cuz you will be outside in summer so i would mix it up a little. Sorry I can't help much hope everything goes okay!

- Have a beach themed cake (sea shells, etc.)
- You can get beach themed wedding invitations from www.weddingsolutions.com
- Wear your hair up! It will be windy...
- Wear flat shoes or go barefoot if you are getting married in the sand
- Don't try to light a unity candle, it will more than likely not light or go out rather quickly
- You will get sand in your dress if you have a train, be prepared
- For wedding favors you can get shoe sizes of your guests and buy them flip-flops ($2.50 Old Navy), sunglasses, sunscreen, etc and put into a gift bag
- Pick out beachy music for the reception

I saw this really neat idea on www.theknot.com The bride used star fish for her table settings. She tied ribbons in her colors with the guests names and table numbers onto the starfish. She then used some sort of tray that she filled with sand and then stuck each of the starfish in the sand. I thought this was a very creative way to make the place settings. I think if I was having a beach theme I would do this.
Best Wishes!

Maybe as wedding favors you can give the guest flip flops with your names on them so they don't ruin their fancy shoes during the ceremony. a Beach wedding is a beautiful idea but you must be sure that all of your guests will be comfortable. Not everyone is a beach person.
