I live in MA and am divorced non physical custodian of my son..and this is either going to be a positive or negative to my taxes--

Am I not "other than head of household"? or should I have claimed/filed my status differently?

Thanks for your help.

U should go to h&r block..they take fee right out of your return..but if you don't. If the mother of your son claims him..you can't. Head of household means you pay more than half of the rent utilities, ect and your child lives with your for more than six months. If you don't meet that then you would file as single. From the sounds of it you would file as single...your baby mama will claim your son and will get the head of houshold credit since she has primary physical custody. You both can't say he lives in your homes.
