You should run one virus blocker (only ony - more will conflict) and a combination of adware/spyware blockers because no one of them will do the whole job.
I use Zone Alarm, Ad Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster and AVG Anti Virus (I have several computers, each with different ones). All of them are free. If I have to give you the web sites for these you need to learn how to search the web. Have you heard of www.google.com?
