I was at my grandmother's funeral and I laughed while saying "I can't believe she's dead."

Open mouth, insert foot.

Everyone gave me a shocked "ohmigod wtf?" look. I can honestly say that I had no intention of being rude or not taking it seriously. Like the other replies said, grief affects people differently, and it usually makes me more... stunned and spacey than sad.

I haven't laughed or seen anyone laugh at a funeral BUT I've seen people get up and express happiness at the persons death. Now THAT was RUDE!

Happened during a wake.

When our friend's grandfather passed away, our friend told jokes and each joke was funnier than the previous joke.

The rest of the family members and guests did not mind as they knew that the deceased had a whale of a time while alive.

Grief and nerves affect everyone differently. My cousin started giggling hysterically at her mother's funeral.

yes, same reason for me, I was just uncomfortable/nervous. That's what I do when I get that way, doesn't matter where I am apparently
