Yeah right with what a donut? You should really think before you act. What person in their right frame of mind would tip a police officer, why did you think that this would help you when you have to make an appearance in court .You are so lucky that he got mad and left.First off how does he /she know that you are not from internal affairs? This person could lose vacation days the very least .How would you feel if he lost his job ,then he gets indicted for bribery ,just so you could feel better about yourself you can tell that to his family when they are about to get evicted from their home .Sorry kids daddy shouldn't have taken that $5.00 dollar tip,but I needed the extra pocket change .Think before you act.Now if you want to really say your sorry write a letter of apology and mail it to the preceint. Then do not get in contact with the officer ever again.

If you want to "tip" a police officer for doing a good job try saying thank you. If you really want to show your gratitude, go to his/her boss and tell them what a good job the cop is doing. Better yet, go to a city council or county commissioner meeting and tell them the police need better pay and benefits. Most of us do this for the principal not the money. The sad fact is a lot of officer qualify for state assistance and have trouble making ends meet, just like a lot of non-police jobs. And most of us (98%) are honest and NOT on the take. Yet we put up with comments like "hide the donuts", "It sure took you long enough to get here", and "Why don't you do real police work" with a smile and have a nice day or drive safe in return.

As a police officer, whether writing a ticket or helping a stranded motorist, it is my chosen profession to do as I do!

To accept money for doing my job is improper and unethical therefore officers do NOT accept tips.

Additionally, if you were stopped again by the same officer, your tip could be construed as that of a bribe which compromises that officers integrity.

The BEST way to thank an officer is to smile, thank him or her, and telephone or write the agency where the officer works! A letter of appreciation goes in to the officers personnel folder!

Best wishes!

WOW! you are extremely lucky that he just got mad. This move is very wise *** and will piss off almost every cop. I will soon become a police officer. If this wise alic move is ever pulled on me I will be sure to make your life a living hell. Money does not allow you to be above the law. Be a wise **** again and you see what happens. Next time, offer the officer a cup of coffee or something.

You can only tip them. By shhhh. If you drive down to the mail box. Mail a certain amount of money. They give you a plaque for your car. They say oh. He, or she says here is a warning for you. An your good. Just don't tip direct. That is bribery. Indirect it is a nice thing to do, and gives to the brave police officers risking their lives everyday on the street to enforce the laws. According to my CJ Teacher.
